If you want a deer rifle, buy a deer rifle. If you want a squirrel rifle buy a squirrel rifle. A compromise, is just that A COMPROMISE! Hardly ever works as good as it should... Saying all that, I hunt everything with a .32cal here in In the Big Thickets of Deep East Texas...

    Pyrodex

Hey Okie, you said- Leave your gun un-cleaned after firing Pyrodex and it will be ruined. I personally have never ruined a muzzle loader, although I only shoot and hunt with a .32cal. I shoot almost daily and I sometimes clean daily, and sometimes, its a couple of days. I do clean with Walmart...

    Cleaning the Crockett

I leave mine in place. I shoot almost every day(I’m retired). Around a dozen balls a day unless I’m huntin. I use Walmart baby wipes for cleaning, no water. And lard for patch lube. Rifle gets wiped down with patches when I m thru. Works for me!

If you’re looking for a all around long gun for almost any situation then it’s 20/62. Other than that trying to find a compromise, well it’s just that a compromise! I do everything I need to do with a .32cal (squirrel, hog and deer) but that’s just me. YMMV.

For small game .36, even better imho .32, that’s coming from a lifelong squirrel hunter.

    My perfect squirrel rifle

From one squirrel hunter to another, Sweet Rifle. Would like very much to share a campfire some day. Your gun is what makes good memories in the squirrel bottoms of East Texas. Ifn you ever have the urge to pass your rifle along to another squirrel hunter just give me a call! Your friend in Deep...

    Colorado Leftover

Sounds like a big hassle, from a country boy from Deep East Texas. But I’ve never hunted anything but squirrel, deer and pigs out the back door. Killed a couple of bears in Arkansas that was raiding Granny’s chicken coop! Sounds like y’all have n fun though 👍
