What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Very nice... I hate to be negative, but, where's the scrimshaw? Bucket-o'-fish! 🤣 🤣 🤣

    Tiny priming flasks??

Maybe you’re all wrong and it’s not a priming flask at all, but a powder flask for derringers? Maaaaaaaaybe?

I vote for the tarnish. I use the Jax brass browner on mine to get a head start.

    BALLISTOL a fair shake

Nope…. I actually don’t mind the smell of Hoppes so much. It has a unique smell, but not at all repulsive as I find Ballistol to be. Hoppes does indeed invoke a nostalgic feeling.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Set up my old wall tent for the first time since about 1991. It was in remarkably good shape for having been stored in a variety of sheds over the past 33 years. It took me three hours to re-learn how to put it up solo…. I was whooped by the time I was done!

    BALLISTOL a fair shake

I am absolutely repulsed by the smell of Balistol. It makes me cringe just saying the name or reading it in print.

    Percussion cap tins

@Blackpowderart I have the Ted Cash snail capper that holds a bunch of caps. Love it because of that, and it’s very easy to use. The Polish Capper also holds a lot (100?), works well enuf, works on any gun, and I like it, but it’s kinda easy to drop/lose caps from it during capping if you...

    Percussion cap tins

I have a Ted Cash capper for rifle and shotgun and a Polish capper for my Remington. I only struggle with the tin once.

One more idea on bore cleaning (sorry).

@The Miner '49er I used TSP to clean my TC Hawken barrel for years. Never any damage to the browned finish, and it only took seconds to have the barrel **** and span. Rinse and oil, and wait till the next shoot. I would imagine Trisodium Phosphate is a WAY stronger cleaner than a...

Is chain fire more likely from the front end with ball or conical bullet ?

At one point in my experimentation with loads for my Remington, I was gobbing the loaded cylinders with a coating of lard to top them off with. I found that pure lard melts before all the cylinders are shot. And makes a mess. I also tried Olive oil and beeswax over the loaded cylinders...

    Gardening ..again

@rrebuck You prolly won’t see the slugs or snails in the daytime. They hide until dark when they won’t get baked by the sun. You can test to see if they’re at fault with a saucer/cake plate nestled down even with the dirt, close to the damaged plant, then dribble it almost full with beer...

    Gardening ..again

I had a bit of damage from hail a couple days ago. Squash leaves had some holes and the wind blew the corn over…. It’s already straightened back up.

    Gardening ..again

My first suspicion would be slugs/snails. Second guess would be grasshoppers. Depends on how the damage looks. If large sections of leaves are missing, it would be the slime balls I mentioned. If it’s holes in the leaves, there are numerous bugs that do that. Leaf hoppers, flea beatles, etc..

    2024/2025 Squirrel Hunting Thread...........

Squaw root is also known as Cancer root since it’s a parasite that feeds off oak and beech tree roots. I have a lot of both of those trees. It doesn’t affect the trees much, so there really isn’t much to worry about, except it can make your heart skip a beat when you’re looking for morels. 🙃...
