    2024/2025 Squirrel Hunting Thread...........

I was seeing gobs of squaw root sprouts when I was morel hunting back in early April. If the squaw root had been morels, I woulda been in heaven. Tons of ‘em. Not more than a handful of morels.

I FINALLY shot my Woodsrunner for the first time!

@Frontstuffer070 The wince should go away after shooting it a bit. Just keep your fingers away from the pan when it goes off and you’ll be fine. It was a painful learning experience for me, and I was left with a souvenir reminder of the experience. A moment of inattention was an eye...

Anyone have hearing aid feed back using hearing protection muffs??

When I was a volunteer RSO for a TWRA range (and before hearing aids) i used to wear custom molded ear plugs under my electronic radio muffs. I turned up the volume enuf to hear the other guys on the radio, but it gave me double protection against the folks with the ported muzzle brakes to where...

Anyone have hearing aid feed back using hearing protection muffs??

I didn’t have any trouble with feedback using Phonak hearing aids, but they weren’t working with my phone as well as advertised. I could wear them under my Bose headphones and listen to music, and I’d get my phone calls while mowing grass, but if I got a call, I’d have to switch to a different...

    tick treatment

I’ve used permethrin for years, and I’m a firm believer. I spray my clothes any day I’m hanging at the house, cuz I know I’ll be walking around in the grass or woods at some point. Tick bites (even for a short attachment time) cause an intense itchy spot on me that lasts for months, so I...

Storing black powder in a shed

The powder won’t degrade with temperature swings. So long as it stays dry. I’d keep it all in a container of some sort to protect it (a cooler works well.) The vacumn sealer bags are a great idea. An extra level of protection against moisture can’t hurt.

Storing black powder in a shed

I brought 10 pounds of Goex FFFg in metal cans with me when I moved to Nashville in 1992. It lived in an old cooler in a non-conditioned shed for 21 years, then in a non-conditioned abandoned bathroom in a wonky house trailer for another 10 years. The cans still look new and the powder has...

Why the flare on swamped barrels?

Swamped barrels make a distinct difference in steadiness of aim. Makes an off hand shot feel more like a rested one.

    Kibler Fowler available.

I’d want one for shot shooting, so the ball argument is moot for me.

And if you get an insect sting or any sort of skin irritation, you can crush up that plantain leaf and rub it on… it’ll fix more than just your shootin’! Amazing stuff.

What is the deal with the fouling ring

I was having a crud ring form in my Kibler .40 SMR after about 6-8 shots. It would make loading a little difficult and appeared to affect accuracy. A quick swab with a water dampened patch and I’d be back in business. I’m using straight lard for lube on a .018 Ox-Yoke pillow ticking patch with...
