FOUND POWDER AT A LOCAL GUNSHOW

Just shoot it up and smile. If you aren't into target matches it shouldn't matter. Personally, I'm happy if it goes bang as long as I'm not hunting.

    Correct?

I go along with the people who say to buy it and have fun. I have a short barreled musket and yes, it is fun.

Visit to the Gun Works in Springfield OR

If you need something they don't list you should call. The place really is jammed with goodies. They will also trade modern guns for muzzleloaders - I know this for a fact.

Great hunt this evening. I laughed a lot.

It was a squirel, but my brother and I both ran clear out of our powder and balls shooting at one lone gray squirel in a tree. He may have died but it was from laughing. Squirels are smarter than people. We laughed along with him as we walked back to camp emptly handed.

WANTED Pistol stand for loading a single-shot flintlock or percussion as well as a revolver

Here's a link to some posted on this forum. It's pretty easy to build one if you don't need it to be pretty, but most of these are very nice. If you just want one that works it can be built from scrap wood like I did. Let's See What Your Handgun Loading Stand Looks Like

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Worked on a golf ball mortar. Just cutting steel for now - the breech won't be wood.

Grinding the nipple openings on a Remington New Model Army cylinder

Does anyone have an "after" picture? I like the idea but I'm chicken.

Nice shooting. Where did you get that holster?

    Snap vs sear type matchlocks

Good points here. I had a few unintentional discharges while learning how to manage my first matchlock. Almost singed my eyebrows once. Just expect a possible discharge at any time once the pan cover is opened. And maybe even if it's closed. Fire and powder in proximity after all.

    Home Depot patch lube

I looked it up: Butcher block conditioner is a revitalizing blend of genuine beeswax, Brazilian carnauba wax (hardest natural wax available), and pure USP food grade mineral oil that is tasteless, odorless, and will never go rancid

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Wondered about 64springer. Did he ever fire his wooden breechplug golf ball cannon? Is he still with us?

    Good day for old guns

Did you get to see the .375?? Very nice rifles.

    Central India Matchlock

I bet a matchlock is slightly more reliable under very, extremely ideal conditions. Number one is that you have to have time to fiddle with the match - hard to do if you are stalking a tiger. Target shooting on a very nice day would be the only time I would vote for a matchlock. Here comes...

Any tips or advice for making a lock from scratch?

So what you are saying is that you are going to do this for fun and to prove that you can do it. Go for it and enjoy yourself and the feeling of acomplishment you will get. Not everyone can build a flintlock.

Any tips or advice for making a lock from scratch?

A really good idea. Don't invent the wheel, just change shapes on an existing design. Very good points about geometry - I made three very simple matchlocks before one worked right. And it was ugly.

    Which Revolver?

If you have any experience with modern single action revolvers, the 1858 will be the easiest to learn. The Remington style is pretty much a regular single action that you load from the front and put caps on the back. The Colt is a different critter. It works just fine but it's a little harder...

    I've screwed up....

The Traiditions breech plug doesn't just unscrew. There are interlocking pieces there.

How did the itzie bitzie teenie weenie screws leave my work bench?????

It's the aliens. They are invisible and they take all kinds of stuff. And sometimes just to mess with you they bring it back.

    Need help, underhammer rifle

Do a search for underhammer flintlock. There are quite a few pictures that might give some ideas. I found this auction link. https://www.historicalarms.com/antique-guns-swords-artifacts-for-sale/4930.html

    Would this be a safety?

Ah, but this particular forum is for pre flintlock. This very old wheel lock certainly qualifies. I like it and would appreciate some details.
