When your range rod doesn't go "clank"

Good tip on the clank. I'll start doing that if I can remember.

Problem getting spark thru to powder... Help!

Just remove the nipple and the clean out screw. Do not attempt to remove the drum itself. It is threaded way into the bolster and then drilled during manufacture. CVA and Traditions are adamant about that.

    Take-Down Ramrod

If you don't care about looks, a cheap shotgun cleaning kit rod works pretty well.

    Percussion SxS auction buy

Yep, a fun project for sure. Someone on here will know about those proof marks.

    Disappointments in this life

If you are in Rawlins the problem isn't high humidity. But maybe the priming compound blew out and is now in New Mexico. Seriously, I wonder if there is some kind of reaction between the cap compound and the powder. What are you loading with? By the way, that's a pretty neat gun shop downtown.

    Rem #10 in stock

Wow. One more argument for making your own.

    Disappointments in this life

Did you buy this new? It looks like the top of the hammer is hitting the cylinder in the video. Maybe the hammer has been modified?

Heptagonal (7-sided) bore muzzleloader by C. Bird - Question

Does the rifling spiral or is it straight grooves?

    Derringer barrels

Any of them but I don't know if originals were smooth or rifled. I don't see any use in rifling in such a short range weapon.

    Derringer barrels

Why were/are Derringers rifled? They aren't target guns after all. Just curious.

Small glass vials for holding powder charge

Yep, Ebay. I don't know what the exact size of mine are but they work fine. Some guns need one vial and others two. Look around, there are options.

My wife says I have issues ...

You need some grown-ups to go with the babies. So, your issue is that you need more.

    Japanese Tanegashima Matchlock Arquebus

That is very, very nice. In a way, it's too bad because someone, sometime lost a great family heirloom. There is some history here. Are you planning to shoot it? I'm sure there are no safety issues. I don't know what I would do - I once traded off a very pretty shotgun because I wasn't...

    Fun lock from India (eBay)

Go with the punch into the hole. If it doesn't move with reasonable force, try heating the hammer with a propane torch. Then tap on it some more. Do not get in a hurry. If it doesn't work it's time to think about it and try something else. A bigger hammer isn't the answer here.

    Cheap shooting

Yep, big boom and lots of smoke and fun. Guess you aren't a target guy either.

Is chain fire more likely from the front end with ball or conical bullet ?

Fasten your seat belt. Good question, though.

    Cheap shooting

Went out this afternoon in the woods, no charge. Fired 3 cylinders from 2 revolvers with homemade caps. Fired 10 shots with my homemade 12 gauge matchlock using non-branded powder, The matchlock was loaded with plastic wads and 5/8 marbles from Dollar Store. My target got lots of holes but...

    Reloading Lever Damaging Balls

About ball and bullet damage - Hornady did some testing to determine the effect of bullet damage. They found no bad effects from nose damage, even going so far as to file the bullet nose at an angle. However, a very small defect in the base caused accuracy problems. Now, this was with...

    Intuitive shooting

I'm with Trigger on this. When I just shoot quickly I can hit but thinking about it is a miss. I'm a poor shot most of the time if there is time to think.
