My Zoli Zouave is very sick

The third pic is blurry looking, but if you zoom the front sight is in focus.

I figured Minnesota meant minié too 😃

My Zoli Zouave is very sick

Your memory is correct. The witness marks on mine line up. The rear sight is centered in line with the tang. It’s just the front that’s canted.

Is investing in a chronograph a good idea?

Does it get bits of schmutz and debris on it from the muzzle blast from a BP gun? Patches go smacking into the sensors or anything?

My Zoli Zouave is very sick

I appreciate the good ideas I’ve been given here. Putting tape on the rear sight is worth trying and not permanent in any way. The front has definitely got to go. I mean if you could look down the top of the barrel from the tang you’d see what I mean. It’s probably about 1/8” off to the right...

Is investing in a chronograph a good idea?

I’m curious about this too. Seems like it would be handy to make some dope tables for long range shooters.

Did those original rifles have progressive depth rifling?

My Zoli Zouave is very sick

I’ve only found one guy on the internet who says he’s managed to work up an accurate minie load in a Zoli. All other Zoli owners have told me what you’re telling me.

My Zoli Zouave is very sick

This is great. I might have some follow-up questions for you if you wouldn’t mind helping me through something like this with my own gun. Sounds like the effort was worth it?

My Zoli Zouave is very sick

The rear sight is held in place with screws and the front is silver soldered, I think. Anyway they’re both fixed in place.

    Black Powder TV

A+ channel full of great information and interesting/ entertaining ‘on the range’ type vids. Highly recommended to all, especially new shooters or old shooters who want to learn something new.

My Zoli Zouave is very sick

Yes. The sights are visibly crooked to the eye and it’s impossible to achieve a consistent sight picture with this rifle because they’re horrible. Your mention of JB weld is something to think about.

That sounds like a lot of fun! Welcome from TX

My Zoli Zouave is very sick

The front sight is fixed. I know it can be removed with heat and replaced somehow. I’ve heard of people having success by drilling a peep for the rear sight as you suggest.

My Zoli Zouave is very sick

The thing has a front sight that is obviously offset just a little to the right, and the rear sight is like looking through a goalpost, and my best 100 yard group with 2 different size and weight minies has been the size of a pumpkin. I want to try installing and filing a rear sight blank. I...

    Internet transactions, payment and shipping

I see this the same way Bob does. Gotta be pragmatic sometimes vs dogmatic. Back to the original topic, I went to the post office yesterday to buy and send a PMO to a forum member. It’s a little nerve-wracking just sending the equivalent of cash out there on what amounts to pure faith and...

    New proud Confederate member

Welcome, Hawk. Most of us aren’t old enough to remember the Confederacy so your stories will be most certainly enjoyed. Lots of friendly and knowledgeable people. I’ve learned a great deal here the past few years.
