NMLRA - FALL Forum Woodwalk shoot

Hey there First Sgt..! If I get to the grounds early enough, I’ll check the chow hall and maybe share a table.

NMLRA - FALL Forum Woodwalk shoot

I won't be making it to Friendship until later in the week for this shoot. Hope you have great weather on Sunday and enjoy the opportunity to get together.

    SPG bullet lube ?

WELCOME Pilgrim. You've noticed that huh..?? You're learnin, and I hope you enjoy the journey. I'm never disappointed when following one of these threads to find that if it goes long enough...someone will just HAVE TO chime in about how stupid someone else's idea is, or how the item being...

    Muzzleloader shooting distance

To cleanly kill a Moose at 150 yds....the rifle is not the limiting factor. There are a LOT of limiting factors that make such an attempt an incredibly poor choice but the rifle/load isn't one of them.

    Mag Spark

I bought one years ago to use up a few thousand Winchester 209 primers I had on the shelf from my Trapshooting career. It worked fine, but I would recommend being aware of buildup in the unit. Keep it cleaned out and you’ll be fine.

    Most Underrated Muzzleloading Accessories.

Left-handed scissors. I enjoy using them to cut round patches. Don't bother telling me they don't need to be round. Don't bother telling me there are faster ways to cut circles out of fabric. I don't care. I genuinely enjoy drawing little circles on strips of fabric then cutting them out with my...

    Teflon coated patching

Log Cabin Gun Shop in Lodi, OH has had teflon coated patching in their booth at Friendship. You might try them. The last I got came from The Minute-Men in Wooster, OH. Ron Hite. ph: 330-262-5482. Cal evenings 7-10 pm. That's been a while (4-5 yrs) and I can't say if they are still offering it.

    fire hazard?

When I was in Rhodesia, we had an American hunter show up with a Colonial Williamsburg rifle to hunt Plains Game in the Midlands area. It was May when the bush is "down" ( dry conditions). Everytime he took a shot, we had a tracker detailed to watch for the patch and run forward immediately to...

noob - what do i need, what is a waste of $ ?

Welcome..!!! It appears that you're well on your way as far as loading and shooting accessories. The one item I don't believe I saw mentioned so far is a LOADING STAND. You won't load your revolver at my gun club without one. Fortunately, for the new folks, we keep a couple at the range that...

    Mr Flintlock's patch lube

I have used it. It’s a good product, no question. It’s hard on your rifle finish if you get sloppy. Shoot all day without wiping if that’s your choice. If you ever cross trails with George Sutton ( Mr. Flintlock) you’ll find him a fine, personable fellow. Easy to talk to and willing to help if...

Anyone ever experienced burning embers in your barrel after a shot?

NMLRA Rule 1090: “ A flexible blow tube may be used at the shooter’s option, provided that the shooter’s head is not placed in front of the muzzle.”

Anyone ever experienced burning embers in your barrel after a shot?

When I shoot my 45/70 BPCR I use a rig like French Colonial described. An empty case connected to some Tygon tubing to blow warm moist air through the barrel. Also, the use of tubing to blow down your barrel from the muzzle is permitted in NMLRA competition.

    visiting south Florida

That’s unfortunate. On the plus side traveling from Homestead to Okeechobee, if you stayed off the Interstate highways you got to see the Real Florida which is much more interesting than the 2 mile wide strip along the coast that is all most of our visitors ever get to enjoy.

    Descending aim offhand.

Another former High Power shooter. I find coming down works best shooting offhand on targets. That said I might try coming up and compare. For me there’s no relation to hunting. I make every possible effort to NOT have to take offhand shots at game animals unless they’re real big and real...

    Descending aim offhand.

The barrel is going to move. Like Ohio Ramrod points out, conceding movements will happen it’s more productive for most of us to attempt to impart some kind of predictability to the inevitable movement of the barrel rather trying to simply hold it motionless.

    Poly-Patches

I'm another who tried'em in the mid-70's in a 50 cal T/C "Hawken". Still have most of what I bought...didn't like them at all.

    visiting south Florida

I live on the E. coast of Florida, a little town called Sebastian, near Vero Beach. The only place I know of anywhere within 100 miles of me to buy any kind of muzzleloading accessories, supplies, etc. is BassPro and the selection there is very limited and varies by location. As to genuine...

Is there a specific builder to look for at Dixon Gunbuilder’s Fair?

You bet, my friend. There’s still a lot going on for folks who have the ability to do some traveling. I’m hoping we have some of that “ early Fall” kinda weather in Friendship, come September. I’m a tent camper and to be honest I’ve about had it with flooding rains and sweltering heat. I live...

Is there a specific builder to look for at Dixon Gunbuilder’s Fair?

Welcome..please don't apologize for questions. That's what forums are for. We all come here to learn. The Dixon family are not holding their annual Gunmaker's Fair in Kempton, PA. The NMLRA has announced a replacement event: The Gunmaker's Fair at Kempton. The first will be in Summer of 2022...
