    Charge not going off, help

So there's no chance to shoot this load? I should just pull it? Don't have an air compressor so yeah I'll have to pull it

    Charge not going off, help

Ok yeah, I guess I'm done shooting for today then lol. I'll pull it. Should I clean the bore at all before pulling? Or wait till after? And yeah by the time I realized it was to fouled, the ball was already in there. I'll just remember for next time to swab more often. It was my first time...

    Charge not going off, help

Help a newbie out. Got a bit too much fouling and before realizing it was too late, ball was on the barrel. It was tough to get down, but I did get it seated, I used a small amount of water to help. Now the charge won't go off, just flash in the pan. Is the main charge water logged? Is there...

Patch stuck at bottom of barrel

Found one on Track of the Wolf, pretty hefty shipping for where I'm at but I need it so I got it

Patch stuck at bottom of barrel

Yeah I've heard they're quite an undertaking. I didn't even know about all the different cleaning tools when I bought it, so I guess I probably should just get em all. I had hoped to avoid stuck balls by shooting with paper cartridges but you're right, never know what could happen so the ball...

Patch stuck at bottom of barrel

Yeah my ram rod is the male variant, made of steel. It's from Loyalist Arms. I imagine I could get a female-female adapter rather than an entire new rod?

Patch stuck at bottom of barrel

Thank you! Yes I'll shoot you a PM

Patch stuck at bottom of barrel

Checked Track of the wolf already, no jags in 75 cal there, but I will look at the others, thanks!

Patch stuck at bottom of barrel

Yeah I am a total newbie haha. Don't have any of those unfortunately, no jags or worms came with my musket. Found out the hard way I have to get them. And yeah they sure are, can't wait to take it out shooting.

Patch stuck at bottom of barrel

Yeah, already tried a shotgun kit and found out it wasn't long enough :/ I will definetley get a worm. Should I get a jag as well? Or would I be able to more or less use the worm for the same thing as well? It's just I can't seem to find the proper jag anywhere online.

Patch stuck at bottom of barrel

YOU ARE A LIFE SAVER. Thank you!! Did just the trick. And thanks haha, you're the first to get the reference. I definitely need to get a worm for next time though, and a jag. Question for anyone, does the size of the jag/ worm matter too much? Would a 50. cal jag work for my 75 cal bore?

Patch stuck at bottom of barrel

Was cleaning and oiling up my new Bess today and dumb me managed to get the patch to fall off the ramrod and it's now at the bottom of the barrel. Sure I'm not the first one. Any ways to get it out?

    Oiling?

Nowhere near me has barricade, so I went with Ballistol. Hopefully it will still work well enough.

    Confusion from vendor

Ok glad to hear it is more a matter of preference. I was worried it was a safety issue or something haha. In that case I'll just go with the tried and true method I knew about previously. Thanks!
  15. JohannesKepler

    Confusion from vendor

Finally got my new Bess. As I understand, with historical loading procedure, powder was emptied from the cartridge into the barrel, and the ball, still in the paper, was then rammed down the barrel and snugly fit on the powder charge, with the paper underneath creating a seal between the powder...

    Oiling?

Update. They had pretty slim pickings. I was only able to find Traditions Wonderlube 1000 Plus. Anyone have experience with this? It says it protects from rust and seasons barrels.

    Total Newbie here!

Definitely not, everything is a bit trickier to get and do up here. I'm pretty far away from their unfortunatley :/ but Crown Land is exactly where I plan to shoot haha

    Oiling?

Thank you everyone for the replies! Lots of good suggestions, Ballistol and Barricade seem to be the most common though. As many have been saying, Barricade seems to be the best option. Thanks Zonie, I'll probably go with that.

    Oiling?

Oh, awesome. So a swab or two with an olive oil-soaked patch should do the trick? Do you have to swab it out dry before shooting the next time?
  20. JohannesKepler

    Oiling?

New to the whole muzzleloading thing. Can't find a definite answer anywhere. After cleaning the gun and letting the barrel fully dry, should it be oiled? I plan on oiling the lock after cleaning, but it's the bore I'm confused with. I see some people say absolutely yes, use bore butter etc...
