Shooting the Lyman Great Plains Hunter

What we have here is a failure to communicate. Old Ford said he was shooting a Lyman Great Plains Hunter which is the name of the rifle. Lyman offers their venerable Great Plains Rifle in a version with a fast twist (1:32") and they call it the Great Plains Hunter. Hornady sells a hollow...

    JULY FIREWORKS CONTEST

Finally a target as fuzzy as my vision!

    JUNE Contest: Splitting Hare’s

Yeah. The humidity is up there. I've found that if I do a moderately decent job at staying in shape I don't mind it so much. Yeah ya gonna sweat, but just shower afterwards. We got the holes punched on the paper and they're in the mailbox - however I saw that the Saturday pick-up for that...

    JUNE Contest: Splitting Hare’s

two days left in June. It hotter-n-blazes out. Oh well. I'll see if I can talk my son and his buddy into going anyway.

    MAY CONTEST

It seems like it worked about the same way as my bowling. Four gutter-balls and a strike! Attaboy Mad Irish Jack! You've had to have hit the top shamrock dead-center to get the 6. Please tell me you used a rifle this time instead of a pistol. :hatsoff:

    MAY CONTEST

Heh. Did anyone read the fine print on the bowling pin target? "Recommended use: scoped rifle" :surrender:

    JUNE Contest: Splitting Hare’s

OK. So a total of 4 points possible. No extra points for hitting the red dot? I take it then that hits in the red dot would be tie-breakers? I have one thought-suggestion: pre-arrange the date and time when you are going to announce the winners. Then we can all log in with a beer in hand...

    MAY CONTEST

Those zombie targets never caught my fancy. But that's just me.

    MAY CONTEST

Don't worry Adui. Shootin' Fool & I just got out and punched paper. Will mail them tomorrow.

    chronograph

I use one. Got it mainly for suppository reloading where a chronograph can help identify dangerous pressure spikes. For blackpowder I find it useful to identify that point of diminishing returns. Sure the extra 10 grains of BP might recoil more and make a louder boom, but over the chronograph...

    DARTS

Yeah. No kidding. I think Adui should have to suffer with the rest of us!

    DARTS

Yeah. I was aimin' for the triple 20 too. A lot of good that did me. Actually it was more like aiming at where I figured the triple 20 should be. That is one tough target - even in full color. 1st, printing it on 8 1/2 x 11 paper makes it much smaller than a regulation dart board. 2nd...

    Lee customer service.

Lee often gets knocked because they use aluminum, white metal, or plastic where others might use steel or cast iron. I've always had top-notch customer service from Lee. You can stay home a save up for that Dillon, I'm gonna go shoot all my Lee ammo. See ya!

    Glass beding a rifle

OK. Sounds easier - except I might be considering this for a longrifle. So would it make sense to only bed a few inches near the breech/tang? The tennons are staples so I won't be removing them.

    Glass beding a rifle

so how do you keep the epoxy from getting down into the mortise where the underlug goes? Or into the bolt-hole where the tang screw goes for that matter? I can see putting tape over or plugging the hole with clay, but as soon as you place the barrel in the stock the underlug with push into the...

    Glass beding a rifle

So, how does one handle the wedge lugs or under lugs while applying glass bed? Do you let the bedding flow into the recesses of the stock, then re-drill the pin holes? Or do you fill the underlug inlet with clay? But then the underlug itself would push into the clay.

    WD-40 Issues

Huh. I use WD-40 after cleaning. Just inside the bore. Wipe any excess that is outside. If it does gum up it never seems to hinder the loading process. I use a silicon spray for the inside parts of the lock. I tried greasing those parts but that didn't work so well in the cold. There is...

    MAY CONTEST

OK That worked for me. I went ahead and printed 3 right away just in case it didn't work if I tried a second time! Dang! These targets are not easy to see at 25 yards. Oh - I see, "Recommended Use: Scoped Rifle". 3x magnification at 50 yards will still appear larger than what the naked eye...

    MAY CONTEST

Hey! I never thought of that! Just call up the target on your smartphone, and set the phone out at 25 yards and shoot it. Brilliant! Just Brilliant I tell you!

    MAY CONTEST

Lucky Gunner site gives me a "404 not found" message. There must be so many of us trying to print targets we're jamming their bandwith. :haha:
