Everyone but me and two others know about this!!

Amen! I swear by steam. It's spotless when done!. Here's a clip of cleaning a wheellock barrel with my Pedersoli Turbo cleaner after proofing the barrel with a double charge. The main unit is on the Bobcat fender in the back. You can see the pressurized "mushroom clouds" coming out the touch...

    Naming your guns?

No name in particular but "Thundersticks" in general. As in "Hey boys, I think it's time to get out the Thundersticks!"

Fairly new to muzzleloader's - Having loading issues - Help appreciated

Is it just me? I am by no means any expert but that seems a little tight. 0.36" (bore) - .35" (ball) = 0.10" gap but the patch runs around *both* sides of the ball (0.10" + 0.10" = 0.20") so you are trying to squish 0.37" into a 0.36" hole. You're compressing your patch to 50%. I'd be inclined...

    Making a Powder Horn: Scrimshaw

Outstanding write-ups!! I've always admired your horns. We need a "Part 3" where you mix those dyes and color the horn! :-)

    Holes in powder horn

I notice the freezer was offered as a way to kill them off. Better get clearance on that though ;-D

    Holes in powder horn

My horns are fine but then I never heard of this. I looked up Carpet Beetles and it seems they like the keratin in the horn. Ya learn something every day. About the Carpet Beetle and how to deal with it (incl PDF to download). https://entomology.ca.uky.edu/ef601

Finally Found That Antique Anvil I Been Huntin'

I guess you missed my "figure the weight" link in the text. ;-)

Finally Found That Antique Anvil I Been Huntin'

If it's old (square tong holes in the base?) there will be three numbers on the far side (hundred weight, stones & lbs - see pic 1) you can use to figure the weight. I found that holding it down with straps works very well. In pic 2 I have the straps bolted to a mobile stand but it could be to a...

    Greetings from Finland!

Well, then you've obviously never spent time in one of their wood fired saunas that are ubiquitous along their innumerable crystal lakes (hotter than Cairns in the summer!). ;-D Welcome aboard!

    Flinglock cleaning

BTW I forgot to mention the reason the wheel-lock barrel being cleaned is ty-wraped to the board in the movie was it had just been "proofed" in a set-up with an oversize (2x if I recall) load.

    Flinglock cleaning

OMG, far worse is the cost of my custom rifles, pistols & muskets. I gave up trying to save money in this hobby on my … 6th? gun. I used to use water too but, having done both, my vote is for steam. That’s all I’m saying. I was just showing the option. My lance shoots steam right out the end...

    Flinglock cleaning

"Flinglock Cleaning"?! Is that where you tie a rope to your ML barrel, throw it in the lake and haul it out hoping it's clean? ;-D Seriously though, for starting out the suggestions here are good however I eventually took a different path. I used to use just water (and the hot water is good)...

    Stupid, stupid, stupid

How about, "when loading, those that 'shoot the breeze'......won't" :-D From experience I can say that loading powder grain by grain with a toothpick into a touch-hole is like doing neurosurgury on gnats. - Mr blabbermouth

    A “Fishy” Powder Measure

That is outstanding. I've seen a few fish measures along the way (I love the look of them) but this is, by far, the best! Kudos!

    Horn-Presser's guide to oil

Well, you've got me there, Sibley's book says around 350-375F. I have yet to do this but thought it might help in picking an oil. Perhaps someone who's done this could advise. I've only built a horn press out of some scrap steel I had laying around for if and when I take this up in retirement. I...

    Horn-Presser's guide to oil

I don't know how useful this is but I bumped into it on a grocery store flyer and thought I'd pass it along. It shows the temperature at which various types of oil begin to smoke. Kind of like an upside down petroleum cracking tower.
