    Colt Dragoon Questions

Could always purchase another cylinder and remove the bluing to match if you want to shoot it. A good soak in vinegar then neutralize it in water and baking soda, then rinse, dry polish and oil it and you’d never know. Then just swap cylinders to display it. I did that with my Dragoon and my Walker.

    Pietta 1858

Thanks for the info. This was given to me by my brother. BP is much cheaper to shoot so I wanted to know that Thanks for the info. Good to know I can switch to BP as it’s much easier to obtain and more economical to shoot.

    Pietta 1858

I have an 1858 Remington NMA factory made as (you know the word) my question is can it be retrofitted to fire .44 cap and ball?

    Current percussion cap source

I get 10 sheets to a pack and if punched out long ways to get 8 rows across the short side you can get 160 caps per sheet. I only use them for revolvers. I like using roll paper versus the priming compound due to that orange residue getting all over everything. But yeah I do them one at a time...

    Current percussion cap source

Yep, I mix mine wet as well. When using German paper roll caps, I place them in water and peel the red paper back, I scrape the powder with an exacto knife and mix with a 1/10 ratio of aluminum powder. Then seal it. It produces a much bigger flame.

    Current percussion cap source

I make mine out of .005 brass stock I get on eBay. They are reusable if you place them on a different orientation where the hammer pin doesn’t strike the same area or put them back in the punch die.

    Current percussion cap source

I don’t know why so expensive? I bought my tool and dye from 22 sharpshooter for $49.95 and primer compound for $19.95. I add 1/10 ratio of aluminum powder and it shoots a flame 6 inches long. I do the same with about 6-8 German roll caps sealed with ducco cement and acetone and it doesn’t leave...

    Current percussion cap source

I recommend making your own if you shoot a lot. I make them with a tool from 22sharpshooter.com and primer powder or roll caps. It’s fun to do and cheap. Lots of videos on how to do them. I use .005 brass over aluminum cans and can reuse them.

    Colt Dragoon Questions

I have an old Colt Dragoon that had odd nipples of various sizes. I replaced them all but kept the originals. These nipples were very old looking. I could send you one if you measure them with a micrometer. I could see if one would match. I would recommend having a gunsmith do it if you...

    Collecting C&B revolvers

I found an original Starr revolver in good firing condition. The seller is asking 1399.00 for it. I’m thinking on picking it up.

    Collecting C&B revolvers

I was lucky enough to find a J H Dance for 260.00 online. I’m only missing a Leach & Rigdon and a Rogers & Spencer, and a Schneider & Glassic and a Starr.

    Pietta`s Spiller & Burr

It can still look new and shiny but without those unsightly modern Italian markings. Or it can be antiqued. I would defarb it to make it more period correct. I plan to do mine soon.

    Pietta`s Spiller & Burr

Nice video. One reason that they went with the Whitney design is because the factory they purchased was already set up with much of the equipment to produce a Whitney style revolver so it just made sense. I also believe that your front sight may have been modified by the original owner which is...

Have you defarbed your percussion revolver?

Not many people can fake a firearm to appear as authentic to someone who knows their stuff. The dimensions, materials, weight and tool fonts are not the same. Anyone paying a high price for an authentic piece would undoubtedly have it appraised by an expert. They would look for and easily spot a...

Have you defarbed your percussion revolver?

    WANTED Spiller & Burr

I did get the Spiller and Burr, I have not shot it yet. My overall impression is it is a quality firearm however it being a Pietta made for Cabella’s, they are very proud of their workmanship and have put their stamp on virtually every surface. It will require more defarbing than most other BP...

    Super Blue on brass...not working?

I have this Spiller and Burr coming soon and I will be using the vinegar and salt method on this piece to get rid of that glaring shine!

    Super Blue on brass...not working?

One sure way to age brass is to remove the brass parts and place in an air tight container with white vinegar and salt. No need to submerge the parts. The fumes will do the work. The longer it sits the more aged it will look. Then just rinse it in baking soda and water to neutralize It. Any...
