    Warped stock wood help

Thanks for all the advice. I am worried that the pressure from the warped stock might effect accuracy. Seems hard to think that the wood could move the steel barrel, but I have heard it can? I suppose it would be best to cut back to a half stock like a Hawkin, but my Son wants a fell stock...

    Warped stock wood help

I just did some trading with my Brother and have ended up with a 1" X 36" 58 cal green mt barrel. And a ten year old Fort Hill "seconds" stock that the fore-arm is pretty badly warped. The farther out the worse it gets. Not just bowed, but twisted also. Thing is, it is just full of curl from...

    Cannon Bore size......

There is a local classifieds web site that actually has a cannon for sale!! The Bore diameter is 1-5/8" diameter. Someone told the seller that it is a three pounder? I am not sure, but I dont think that would make it a three pounder. Any ideas what they would call that gun? It is 36" long...

    Designing Swivel Gun

That is a nice gun. It doesn't look 30 yeaars old. A swivel gun is called that because it swivels left and right and up and fown easily on a "yoke". It has a "tiller" that attaches at the cascable ball on the back that the shooter holds to aim the piece while touching it off with a torch held...

    Designing Swivel Gun

That is a nice gun. Did you build it? I would like to build a Swivel Gun like was used on the early frontier here in Pennsylvania during the F&I days. That stle, say abarrel about 18" - 20" with a wooden tiller, on a yoke. Not a miiature replica, but more full sized. I am not ignoring the...

    Designing Swivel Gun

Great info, thanks for the input! This is why I am asking for all your ideas and knowledge. This must be safe. I am also confering with filks on "Jouster.com", on the black powder forum. I am getting very similiar info and advice. Except for one important part. There, they are reccomending 1080...

    Designing Swivel Gun

Well, I have alittle more information, ideas. The steel I have is 1045 which suposedly gives 82KSI (82,000 KSI ?) Also, I spoke with a blackpowder rifle barrel builder, who thinks I am plenty safe a 1-1/4" Bore or even more. Consider a 50 cal rifle is often built on a 7/8" oct barrel. A 54 cal...

    Designing Swivel Gun

I have a piece of 3" Dia steel and plan on building a swivel gun. I have a friend who will drill the bore to what ever dia and depth I need. So, how large a dia bore can I safely put in a 3" outside dia breech? I would like 1-1/4" or 1-3/8". I dont think I dare 1-1/2"?? I will not overload it...

Hello from the land of Old Westmoreland

As a new member I'm just saying howdy to all. I can tell I'm going to really enjoy this site. I been shooting and hunting with BP for many years now, as well as Civil War and F& I re-enacting. Although my back and legs keep me away allot latley. Still the F&I and Rev war are my favorite history...
