    In Pa. , this type gun would perhaps be called a "barn gun". A gun left out at the barn in case something needed killin' out away from the house.

    Rifling depth?? 9 groove sounds like shallow groove button rifling , while 5 groove could be either button or cut rifling. Measure the rifling depth , and twist. More info needed.

    Which is historically correct, precut patches or cut at muzzle?

    I like any lube that emulates Dixie Gun Works Old Zip Patch lube. (rendered sheep fat). I'll try your method , I've just never melted rendered sheep fat. Old Zip has been gone since around 1982. Bear fat rendered , is miraculous stuff , just ask any Eastern American Indian.

    I shot offhand target , and silhouettes for 10 yrs. when young. I was 5 " 7" tall and weighed 200 lb. , and was told I was built like an anvil , OK , a chubby anvil. My offhand rifle was a long rifle .50 cal. Getz brl. 44 " long , weighing about 10 lb.. Great rifle , but a little heavy...
