Some more pix from Camp Raven Knob

The best days shooting , and teaching , are spent w/kids. My hunting buddy has taught hunter safety classes for 50 + yrs. It's part of his DNA. It's unknown how many new safer hunters he brought into the sport. I was always disappointed I couldn't teach , due to my "on call" job.

    WORST DAY AT THE RANGE!

This guy's days are probably ruined from daylight on. He just wanted another persons day screwed up , as well. Some folks are like that , and are meant to be avoided. He just hasn't found the local senior center , where perhaps someone with similar ailments can be enjoyed.

    Let's Talk Tuning

Tuning the internal parts on a lock , is not for amature hands. I give credit to all those good lock mechanics , that try to explain what they do , to those that have little to no experience in the art , let alone the specialized tools .

    Hears one more

Spell check on this laptop is a clown show. I ask Alexa , Amazon's voice svc.. for clarifications , and she's pretty good. Far as smooth bores go , load her up strong , one size larger than posted for modern ctg. shotguns , and try some patterns.

How did the bore diameters like say .54 become established ?

When rifles were ordered to be built by the Pa. and other gunsmiths , the official govt. cal. was .457. Before 1800 that was raised to .480. The first Harpers ferry muskets , were .540 cal.. Musket calibers in France were .69. Britian were .75. Both those smooth bore cal.'s influenced...

    FREE Percussion Caps!

As a kid , my Mom would send me outside into my Dad's garage workshop to keep from under foot. Early on , I found an old tin of Percussion caps marked EALY ?.. Coulda' been pre WW 1. I told My Dad I found them and he said they were old and dangerous , and not for kids. I waited until he...

    Average Group

Im over 70. I have begun using a home brew tang peep sight on my 50 cal. , scratch built early Lancaster copy longrifle. I love to use a shooting bench with a good rest , and PRB. On any given day , the rifle setup will do 6 " at 70 yds.. Good enough for this old guy. Deer steps out...

    Horn makes mark

I've altered a few flea mkt Horne's from the 1970's , especially if they were flat plug horns. I have a lifetime supply of half inch thick curly maple slabs salvaged from Fred's wood stove firewood . Those flat pine plug flea mkt. horns can be altered positively by epoxieing a hunk of high...

    Cleaning Question

If you don't have enough spit , saliva , to wet a patch , there are many lubes to use instead of saliva. If grease , or rendered fat , is your choice , be conservative with the amount. lay your patch down on a hard surface , and rub excess off w/ finger. That's why old original guns have...
