How did the itzie bitzie teenie weenie screws leave my work bench?????

I’m missing 48” ramrod drill. Taped to it is a trigger and trigger plate. Gone! I have found the box, of course it’s empty. It’s just gone. Where does a 48” ramrod drill go anyway? I guesse I put it somewhere really really safe......

My rifle project has just earned a name....

I’m not big on naming rifles and cars and such. On occasion things do get named. Throughout history many rifles both real and imagined and have been named. Sweetlips from Kings Mountain Boone’s Ticklicker Cricket’s Old Betsy Hawkeye’s Killdeer Introducing.... Fumbelina.... I have been...

Don't shortchange yourself on good light

That’s a really short rifle. Is that one of those short Yagers? Nice light.

Chambers smooth rifle with 20g barrel

Do you read and speak Canadian? Grenville county is written in Canadian. Once you suffered through Grenville County you can spot Alexander’s edits in RTAL. It’s good info. I’m just telling you that a lot of things are over explained. Sometimes less is more. It can be confusing and for me it...

    Breech plug issue

I would use it. The truth is after the first few shots it’s all going to carbon up. If you look at original beech pins you’ll see how short and course threaded they are.... Personally..... I think it’s fine but this is me, not you. The perfect 1 inch long breech pin sealed and tightened with a...

    Trigger Sear Arm Height

Personally I think you are almost there with your original lugged trigger plate assembly. Go just a little deeper with the inlet..... not much Remove the trigger plate from the assembly and peen the top of trigger plate. Peen, file and fit. You may get there just by peening the plate to meet...

    Fusil ,,tulle,,fowler

I'm with Mr Person For a very fine gun of the period, An English fowling piece with a Spanish made barrel. These Spanish made barrels were sometimes inlaid with gold. Speaking very generally of the period, the French did not have the quality or the quantity. There is documentation of French...

I have probably asked this before...

It’s a neat thought that I would save for the post apocalyptic future. You know when we are all chasing each other in the desert diving cut up 4x4s and big rigs wearing hockey masks listening to Tina Turner. What does love have to do with it? Hey no joke..... Thank you for this thread. I’m...

$1,000 budget (set on stone): What should I recommend?

I hate to be this way but.....It’s the truth. A good friend had one too. It was a fairly neat gun other than the required 1/8 bead of silicone to seal the gap between the lock and barrel. That was the only option unless you wanted to blow the lock off. BTW That was unrepairable. The round...

I have probably asked this before...

Yes There’s all kind of pistols. The Sea Service was 16 bore. These started out as pistols and were designed from the start as pistols.. I don’t see the economy.

$1,000 budget (set on stone): What should I recommend?

Nope!!!!! I have been there, done that and I have the T shirt. What’s left of that gun is in the junk /parts pile in the corner of my garage where it belongs. Don’t do it!!!!!! You”lll be Sorrrrrrreeeeeeyyy!!!

I have probably asked this before...

Why? 30 minutes with a sawsall and I can turn my ‘51 coupe in to a roadster.....why? What a waste. A TC Rifle made into a pistol would be a very miserable pistol indeed. Now if you are into leather, chains football shoulder pads with metal spikes and purple spiked Mohawks, it might fit.

    Building concept.....Waiting for the turn

I have brought the top of the side panel down to follow the side flat. I have spotted, drilled, and tapped my lock nails/ bolts. There’s a lot of layout for this to spot the bolts. If any want me to explain more, let me know. Now I’m doing the side plate. In the photo above it needs...

    Building concept.....Waiting for the turn

Rich, Yes, I totally agree. I started this with the new builder in mind. That’s pretty much what I am. A new builder but with a few years of experience. I see many finished guns posted by newer builders. Many of these are done well but they were finished too soon. There’s one posted right...

    Building concept.....Waiting for the turn

I glued in a dowel and fixed the stock. Easy Peasy. If you notice all the little square pieces of wood on the floor, that’s from cutting the stock for the BP. I don’t have a band saw. It’s a lot of work but cut to the line, cut the cuts out, clean up with a rasp. Buttplate and screws will...

    Building concept.....Waiting for the turn

Mr. Pierce I got the idea while I was filing that casting. I was considering ordering a better one, probably from Mr. Brooks. There was a point that it was looking really bad but I kept at it. Then it got better. That was the “ turn”. I knew then it was a usable part. I believe that many...

    Building concept.....Waiting for the turn

Above I’m testing the rifle to see how it shoulders. It’s fine. After that, I did the final fit. Then..... I blew it. I blew the turn. I drilled the BP off center.... The hole in the stock was too far back. I broke a bit off in the stock. (Got it out) Now I have to fix all this...

    Finishing A Fowler Build

Pathfinder, There’s only one lock I would consider for this, the Chambers Early Ketland. I would make that happen. You are limited by the nose/front of the lock panel. Moving the barrel back is not that big of deal. Honestly if that’s what it takes, that’s what it takes. The lock and lock...
