    Possible build?

Inline style versus a side lock. Which design would be more simple to build. You know, like a cap and ball style where the nipple is directly in front of the hammer and in line behind the load?

    Possible build?

I considered boring it out to make a shot pistol. Or patched round ball

    Possible build?

Not really sure. It came from a beat up old Hawken style rifle. I'm thinking leaving it as long as practical would be best right?

2024 cap update, bad and the bad

And have even seen cap gun caps disappear out of the local dollar stores for about the last seven or eight years. So out of curiosity I went to Amazon to see if they sell them and if they have hazmat shipping. I could not find any on Amazon but they do have matches which I believe they ship...

2024 cap update, bad and the bad

I did the exact same thing as you last year at the local Walmart. Remember to start checking around the end of July or early August.

New Uberti 1861 Navy from Midway. Buyer Beware!

I prefer a gun with a stationary rear sight and one that you don't have to damn near take down all the way to reload and it doesn't seem to be cursed with a cylinder Gap as often as not.... Actually having a frame above the cylinder is just icing on the cake. :) And I have owned a Colt type...

New Uberti 1861 Navy from Midway. Buyer Beware!

That is why I think the Remington design is far superior.

    Possible build?

I have a 50 caliber octagon barrel and I was considering cutting perhaps 10 in of it and making a single shot target pistol. Not sure what would be more simple. An inline type nipple ( think revolver style hammer and trigger ) or a side lock ? I'm thinking the inline style might be most...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Cleaned my 1863 with the ballistol I was eagerly awaiting the arrival of from my order. I had never used it before and it seems to be very effective. I understand it is great for lots of things. I'm thinking it might make a great chain lube for my street legal dirt bike. For that purpose I...

    Hole Through the Barrel

In my most unprofessional opinion, I might consider just spot welding it closed. I would put the screw in it and cut it below flush and weld from there

New Uberti 1861 Navy from Midway. Buyer Beware!

I just purchased a pietta 1858 from Midway it is a very nice gun. I too had that sort of red grease I was thinking was rust around the nipples. I removed the nipples and cleaned it and found out that it was indeed some sort of Grease. And I'm not disputing that it may be rust on the OP's gun...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Pretty much done except for maybe some more polyurethane. I ended up putting the Confederate hundred on top and I put a genuine $2 bill inside with those rascally rebels rebelling against the king. Just look at them all signing that declaration of Independence ! In my opinion is the most...

Any other crazy kids out there?

My brother once shot me in the head from the upstairs window that was open but through the screen with a daisy pumpmaster 670 I believe on 10 pumps. He didn't think it was loaded and it was roughly a 45° angle and it hit me on the head and penetrated the scalp and the BB slid back about an inch...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Stained this plain pine box that my girlfriend gave me. First I sanded it and then burnt with a torch. I'm going to take some polyurethane and put maybe two pieces of reproduction Confederate money on it and use it for a presentation case for my 1863. Anyone have any ideas for any sort of foam...

Ya' never know what's up there.

You probably have heard that the Peace River is world famous for pleistocene era fossils. I have spent thousands of hours standing in the river with a sifter. I love the Peace River. Have camped on it many times and it is where I took a feral hog with my 1858 years ago from about 80 ft. I...
