My Grandpa on Dad's side was born in 1880 and Grandma in 1886. We bought 22 shells at the drug store for 50 cents for a box of 50. Magpies had a bounty on them. We would collect their legs to try and win a new 22 rifle. Ah those were the days in Montana in my youth! Times have changed.😞

@Steve Wagner. If that's working for you great. I use Durofelt wads when my patches start blowing and that takes care of it for me.

I use it in my 54 calibers. Felt wads will save your patches. Works good 👍

A caliper is a must have. I'm thinking your cast balls are under sized. Keep at it. She'll shoot.

My relatively new Investarms Hawken 54 cal lists 110 grains for max with round balls and 90 with 400 grain conical. My manual is in " American".

2 hunting units in northern Idaho have verified cases. I've got a blood test kit from Fish and Game to test my elk ( should I get one) here in South East Idaho.

I ordered a Lyman from TOTW very early in 2022. After 3 months of no stock I cancelled the order. Early this summer I got an email saying the rifle was in stock but I'd already purchased a new Investarms from Dixie so I'll never know the manufacture date on the Lyman. Oh well.

There's buffalo shooting and there's buffalo hunting. Hunting areas still exist. They aren't cheap or easy. A lot of Indians lost their pony when riding along side of a stampeding herd. Those horns aren't just for looks and buffalo have no sense of humor!
