Recommended revolver parts to upgrade or have as spares?

I appreciate everyone being so helpful with my query. Many thanks. If I may ask.. Does anyone know if the internal linkage parts (hand &spring, bolt, trigger spring etc..) for Uberti Army .44 are the same size as a Navy .36? I suspect they are the same as it would be inefficient from a...

Welcome from Queensland Australia. I immigrated here from Idaho a long time ago. I still miss it.

Recommended revolver parts to upgrade or have as spares?

Thanks very much for the advice. Does anyone know if the hand/trigger spring/bolt/screws etc. are the same as a .44 Army? And a recommended vendor? I was thinking about Dixie Gun Works

Recommended revolver parts to upgrade or have as spares?

Hello, I hope everyone is doing well. I’ve got a Uberti 1858 Navy .36 that was made in 1978. It’s in excellent condition but nothing lasts forever and I’d like to have on hand some replacement parts; and perhaps some higher quality parts if possible. I’m visiting family in the US soon and...

    Brass frame revolvers

Yes. They were junk. YouTube channel Blackie Thomas has a very good series on percussion revolvers, and in one (I can’t find the link now, but I think it was about brass frames) he discusses how when the centennial of the US Civil War came around, a lot of gun manufacturers made reproductions of...

I have to rethink the spare cylinder idea

We are all enthusiastic about black powder shooting, and by extension, history…and that’s a very good thing. I think honest civilians rarely got into the big shootouts that Hollywood has been portraying. The Old West has always been mythologised and romanticised. The Victorian dime novels and...

Do you have a muzzleloader with an inexplicable problem?

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I’ve tried swapping nipples, and i should clarify that the hammer never fails to ignite the percussion cap. There’s nothing wrong with the mechanicals. The problem, for a mysterious reason, is that the fouling in the right barrel will cause misfires after a few...

Do you have a muzzleloader with an inexplicable problem?

Thanks for your reply My shotgun is a Pedersoli 12 gauge with cylinder bores ( no chokes). I don’t clean between shots, just use a mildly greased felt wad between powder and shot. As I said, the left barrel is always reliable. For some mysterious reason the right barrel only gives misfires...

Do you have a muzzleloader with an inexplicable problem?

I’m curious if anyone has a persistent issue or problem with a muzzleloader that you simply can’t fix? For example, I’ve got a side by side shotgun and after about 6-7 shots the right barrel will misfire and get clogged up. The left barrel never does. I’ve been down in that breech with a scope...

I have to rethink the spare cylinder idea

It’s my own opinion that our idea of how the old west was is mostly influenced by the movies. Movies are intended to entertain.

How to cut grease notches in a ‘58 Remington cylinder pin?

Hello all, I hope everyone is well. I recently bought a Uberti Remington Navy .36 and have been investigating ways that people have used to keep the cylinder easily spinning through the powder fouling. I’ve read a few posts about cutting small notches along the cylinder pin to hold grease...

    Poor man’s guns

Military surplus! It’s the same then as now. Former military muskets were affordable and built sturdy.

Curious about availability of percussion caps in Europe, Africa, S.America, Asia?

I did miss that, thanks. I wasn’t looking for the costs so much as the availability.

Curious about availability of percussion caps in Europe, Africa, S.America, Asia?

Hello, I hope everyone is doing well. The rarity of caps in N. America and Australia is well discussed on our forum. I’d like to hear from muzzleloader shooters on other continents. Can you get percussion caps as readily as you always could?

Any tips to make a muzzleloader “sure-fire”

Many thanks for all the advice. My concern is when competing in a match with a percussion shotgun or rifle and fouling causes a misfire that is sometimes time consuming to resolve

Any tips to make a muzzleloader “sure-fire”

There is always that possibility of a misfire. What things can be done to make sure the shot goes off? I remember special percussion nipples used to be available that used centrefire primers because allegedly they throw a hotter flame.

How do you stabilise your rifle for load testing/sighting in?

That looks ingenious. Can you share a picture with a firearm in it?

How do you stabilise your rifle for load testing/sighting in?

In order to remove as much human error as possible (without a lead sled), what methods do different folks use to get their rifles steady?

    Wasps Nest?

Pardon me for throwing cold water on this, but I think this is a remembered bit of frontier mythology. Wasps nests will work as wadding. But it’s not to say that it’s the best kind of wadding. Old fabric, tow, wool- all that stuff would have been used to excellent effect. Of course a wasps...

    RWS 1075 Percussion Caps

You’re going to approve of them. Good German product ( I think) I wonder if RWS realises the hole in the market that CCI isn’t able to fill?
