    Differences in Smooth Bore firearms

As I mentioned to Mr. Crawford, I shoot a .735 ball with a .010 patch whilst the FDC shoots a .720 ball with a .015 patch, could that .015" be that much to make all that difference in accuracy ? Also is 28 gauge good for White tail deer ? The owner of the FDC used a 12 gauge but said he would...

    Differences in Smooth Bore firearms

Interesting, my Bess shoots only well with a .735 ball with a .010 in a cartridge with 120g FF powder. Anything else deviated from that and the Bess isn't nearly as accurate as it is now. On contrast the Fusil I fired was 12 gauge firing a .720 ball patched with a .015 patch and 100g FF but it...

    Differences in Smooth Bore firearms

I have a Pedersoli Brown Bess that I have posted about before on this forum and thanks to help of many on this forum I have been guided in the right direction to skillfully manage the weapon. I have been able to achieve great accuracy at 50 yards by using a .735 Round ball with a .010 patch...

    Euro Arms 1803 Harpers Ferry

I would buy it but if he sells it for more than I can give the money goes to his mother to pay bills since she is a recent widow and that is fine with me. Right now he is thinking about hanging on to it and he is going to find out where his father got it from and the story behind it from his...

    Euro Arms 1803 Harpers Ferry

Oh damn you learn something new everyday. The box says Euro Arms so we figured it was a repro. I guess he could try putting it up on Gun Broker and see what he could get, or on some other auction site. I don't want it now because something like that belongs in a collection or a museum and not...

    Euro Arms 1803 Harpers Ferry

Yea I just had a look a my friend's 1803 and it sat in that box for a long time, the metal is pitted and rusted and for some reason it is percussion cap not flintlock.

    Euro Arms 1803 Harpers Ferry

Are Davis locks easy to install ? Or is there some serious work required. I can always take some wood away to get a tight fit. Is there any drilling required?

    Euro Arms 1803 Harpers Ferry

Recently I posted about a Bess I got for deer hunting but another flintlock has approached. A neighbor of mine has come to me with an offer. His father passed a week ago and has a Euro Arms 1803 Harpers Ferry Rifle .54cal new in the box and wanted to sell it to me for $400. It has never been...

In need of some Smoothbore hunting tips (.75cal Brown Bess Musket)

I just measured my bore yesterday and I came out to be .738 diameter so a .735 or .730 ball will be a tighter fit. I have been using FF Goex powder. Does FFF give a faster burn or was it just your powder of choice ?

In need of some Smoothbore hunting tips (.75cal Brown Bess Musket)

A few days ago I got my hands on a Brown Bess, it is Pedersoldi (not IMA or Original). I got it at a local gun shop in a charity raffle brand spanking new and I took out on the farm for some target practice. I was using .715 round balls with 120g FF powder in military paper cartridges and after...
