Fully agreed and its why I always say, don't just list a volume, get it on a scale and list what weight your measure actually is. I can then translate that to my volume measure.

That is good information to pass along. Always good to have a starting point.

I have a 45 Colt unmentionable for the 47 Walker. Caps are hard to come by and I wanted an option to be able to shoot it. They have their place and hard to argue if you just want to shoot its vastly faster. I got the Mag Spark for the ROA to allow shooting as well sans caps. That is a...

Got it, thank you. Makes sense but when I found the Aluminum Grip on the Centennial it was, what the hey? I would have thought it had gone the other way. Were the SA also Aluminum Frame Grip? I had a 73 or so SA 44 mag with the transfer bar (hated the T Bar) but don't remember any...

Agreed. I can see exactly what Mike is talking about now. What an amazing body or work.

LOOKA HERE what I fell in to.

That truly is wonderful. I understand the issue. Keep it and pristine or shoot it and then its not. Serious dilema unless you just want to keep it for display and visual enjoyment. Tough dilema. If I can't shoot it I don't keep it but that is me.

Pietta 1858 New Army Revolver .44 Cal 8" barrel

Has anyone trapped round balls and seen if there is a better opturation with higher velocity? I am thinking there should be but maybe a limit is reached below 1000 fps? I know the various expanding base bullets do of course, ball or conical dynamics are ?????

Just to clarity. Is that a Stainless Steel Grip frame or is it a steel grip frame?

New to me Colt Baby Dragoon Gen 2

Mike, is that on this site? If not I would like to be included PM wise. Its a fascinating aspect even if I am reluctant to get into that depth of work. If I don;t know what I am doing I like to make it temporary so I can regroup.

What did I buy? Remington New Model 1859?

Agreed on the silly. Took me some years but I realized even at 10 or 11 all I wanted to do was work at something. I was not so much excited about fish, but working on a guys commercial boat was a great first job. I was happy to do it for free, he insisted on paying me. He won...

Mike had to educate me that spinning cylinders is considered bad, he certainly convinced me though on your own gun? Sometimes I have to squint before I get what he is saying. I can see the edicate aspect to spin someone else's cylinder. Also had to give it some thought as he is right...

What did I buy? Remington New Model 1859?

Kind of like currency forgers. Anyone can go to the wrong side if that is their personality. I would put it more that there is not enough money in it to be worth while, forge something that has big bucks like a Luger or some such. I know one guy who bought Lugers and made them matching...

This is my go to on ROA http://www.rugeroldarmy.com/ Yea my 94 is not marked up but the Centennial did have marks on the Aluminum grip. At a guess the Stainless is probably stainless grip but I don't know that for sure.

I will defer to that. As noted measurements are very difficult to make and my tools are far from the best.

Sadly the issue for Ruger is the cost. Have to figure it would be north of $750. How many would buy vs getting a Pietta or Uberti? I have two ROA and cylinders do not cross well in one direction. So if the Kirst solves that well done for them.

    That is one nice gun.

Pietta 1858 New Army Revolver .44 Cal 8" barrel

The dynamics are interesting, the larger the ball the wider the band on the bullet so its not all shaved off. Also the shaving varies a lot between guns. The ROA has a straight chamber at .450. The Uberti 47 Walker (newish) has an opening that varies between .446 - to .448. Down 5/8 of...

    Ruger Old Army Upgrade

Having come late to BP and not knowing full ROA history, I was surprised the Centennial had aluminum grips when I dissembled it. I had to look up the ROA history as my 94 ROA had steel grips. I like the heft of the steel grips , maybe if it was a hunting gun I would feel different...

    Chamber vs bullet size

Doing a bit of dimensioning on my 47 Walker. Barrel is .453. But the cylinders have some taper so the size of your ball going into the barrel varies depending on how deep its set down in the cylinder. .446 - .449 at the top. 5/8 on down its .438

New to me Colt Baby Dragoon Gen 2

Good, some humor is not a bad thing at all. I may not be putting this correctly but I think the general idea is right and hat is off to someone that has gone that distance with all these BP variations. As I tell my dentist when he asks me what I want to do, hey, I got one set of teeth...
