That’s my favorite pic of her. That’s also my favorite spot to go fishing. Well, my favorite spot to launch the boat and fish the flats.
We got a “cool” snap yesterday down this way. Man it’s nice! Only got up to 82 today. Brrrrrrrrrrr…
Ok, any MST3K fans out there? I am naming this rifle “Crow”, because I can’t look at that lock with no flint in it without thinking of Crow…
-Red, can’t help what he thinks…
Thanks, but I probably wouldn’t go that far with it. It has turned out pretty nice so far, but a lot of what they have said is valid. Well, not the “expensive kit or nothing” part, but you know what I mean.
This kit has required quite a bit more fitting and finishing than I would imagine the...
My Southern Woods Colonial Kentucky Mountain Runner (tm) is getting closer! I’ve had her on a 100 grit diet all week, and did some reconstructive surgery on her nose. I’ve still got to install the barrel tenons, drill them, install sights, and fill the gap between the nose cap and the stock...
I took apart every toy I ever got as a kid, so I could figure out how it worked. Sometimes they went back together and worked again, lots of times they didn’t. It was worth the risk to me.
-Red, learning through destruction…
Now that’s funny!
That half round front half should be interesting. Have you ever done any machining like that, or is this a “jump in with both feet” kind of thing? One way it will be difficult. The other way, it will be just fun to watch, lol! I hope you pull it off either way!
When I...
Today I had a stump grinding job to make a little extra toy money, so I didn’t get to work on “Insert Name of Rifle Here” as much. I did start shaping that nose a bit, and did some shaping up if the tang area. No pic today, as there just isn’t much to show.
I’ve enjoyed reading all around this...
I’m pretty happy with it so far. As long as it goes “pfff-boom” when I’m done, I’ll be tickled pink.
It’s not near as, umm, ambitious (?) as yours… lol!
Man, I don’t know if you’re just messing with people, or going to actually try it, but I will definitely be watching for the build. Hope it...
Thanks! And now that the barrel is finished, I’ll get to shaping the tang area. Apparently I have a lot more inletting to do, and some work on the breech plug… I just can’t get this to fit right.
-Red, upping the round count…
And you should have titled this “Nathan’s Most Amazing Single Piece Stock Traditions Build: Better Than Red’s Because I Listen!”
Kind of catchy, don’t you think?
-Red, making it up as I go along…
I’ve done the “jeans legs filled with sand”. Works well. Very stable. Admittedly, it was with a 25-06, and no smoke was spewed forth, but it was still a stable rest.
-Red, wearing jorts now…

Red’s! It’s what we do!
Bruh! I was so jealous of that one piece stock!!! I was like “WHAAAAA??? They make a one piece???” I don’t feel quite so bad now that you explained it further!
As a total noob to the flintlock world, I have benefited so much from the guys in here.
Best to you on the build. Keep us posted and...
Just re-read your thread. I’ll have to check in the barn and see what tung oil I have. I’m still quite a ways from any type of finish, so I got time to change my mind about a hundred times.
-Red, still deciding.
Shaped up the lock panel and the plate on the other side to match. The back end of it is easy peasy. The front side, not so much…
Finished browning the barrel, so I can get it mounted in there tomorrow, and start shaping the front end and the nose cap.
Still reducing weight on that fore grip...
