Red’s Incredible Traditions Kentucky Build: Probably not what you would have done…

I grind stumps as a side hustle, to supplement my toy fund, and when I’m in the roots of a lot of these stumps, I find some beautiful wood. If I see something I like, I’ll just grind out a chunk, and dry it, and make pipes. This is a Live Oak root from a very old tree. I did nothing more than...

I like the look of the faux striping. Probably just going to stick with my original plan though. Black it out a bit. Kind of like that stock on that full stock Hawken was, except not quite that much black… -Red, skeered of striping…

I always tell people I’ve been playing way too long to be this bad. And, no worries about the hijack. I’ve got 24 hour epoxy drying on the stock, and 3 hours between coats of LMF Browning on the barrel. Lots of down time since that glue joint let go.

I’ve got a five string in the closet. Drove my wife NUTS practicing rolls on that thing. I really enjoyed it, but I just couldn’t get that syncopation down right. My “Cripple Creek” didn’t sound like it was supposed to. Then I thought I’d try the mandolin, which is an Italian word meaning...

I can play quite a bit of Buffett. Saw him in concert back around 82. A bit of old school country. Lots of southern rock. But my main gig is leading worship at our church. I’m getting way too old to be leading the contemporary stuff, but I still manage to get away with it somehow… I keep telling...

Definitely slotting the tenons. I should have replaced the supplied pins with threaded rod, now that you mention it. Probably would have gripped better. Oh well. When I do it the third time, I will up the game even further. -Red, underkilling bears one at a time…

My clamping technique. Two squeezey clamps and some surgical tubing. Plenty of JB Weld. -Red, getting it all over everything…

Yeah man! I loved that idea! I took off two inches total. Now I just have to thin that fore grip down some more. And, as someone mentioned in here earlier, my glue joint failed. I used gorilla wood glue, but it let go clean as a whistle. I had clamped it up while filing down that entry pipe...

You did a really nice join on the stripes. I would definitely have to practice that a bit before putting on a stock.

And, are you SURE this is a CVA? I keep zooming in trying to find the joint. Those stripes really blend that in nice. Love this little rifle! -Red, drooling on his phone a lot lately…

Started browning the barrel today. Using Laurel Mountain Forge browning solution. Picture is first coat after 3 hours. Applying second coat now. And, took someone else’s idea on the trigger slop. I started inletting it deeper, and realized just how deep I would have to go to get it to stop...

JB67 did a nice job of the entry pipe, even extending a wear plate all the way down the fore grip. Good looking gun. My Modified Build of a Traditions Kentucky Rifle kit

I would equate that customer with what I call “Guitar Bonkers”, people that “bonk” the guitar into everything as they walk around with it, door frame, table edge, arms of chairs…that sound… man, it sets me on edge. I even tell people when I hand them my guitar, “Don’t bonk it”. Well, I usually...

He mentioned earlier that it’s faux stripe. If not, I’m writing Traditions and complaining about mine, LOL! That’s a nice build. Lots of little detail in it that I like. I noticed the trigger guard from the first pics, and just thought maybe CVA had a nicer trigger guard. -Red, still awake…

Couldn’t stand it. Had to see if I could fix it before I went to bed. Silver soldered it. Got a lot of cleaning up to do, but it will work. -Red, puttin’ in the long hours

Remember when I told you, waaaaay back in the beginning of this tale, to prepare to be amused? Well, here we go! So, I decided to join the two halves today. I got to digging around in some model airplane stuff I had, and found some plywood that we use for a firewall/motor mount that was the...
