    Unclogging a Lee bottom pour

I’m with French Colonial, buy a ladle and forget the bottom pour. A ladle will give you a faster pour, and a better bullet. Thanks, Kevin

Where to get flint for fire starting?

A while back I came into a few flints made for muskets. So I stuck one or two in my fire kits, they work bery well, and don’t take up much room in the kit.

    Strap bag vs belt bag?

I use a bag and horn both over my shoulder. Tools water food go in a small haversack on the other shoulder. Roaming the forest flintlock in hand is just too much fun.

    DIY cleaning patches

I go to home depot or Ace and buy rags in a box, yes thats the name ofnit. Then take a couple out and cut the patches I need for my guns. They hold up very well to the cleaning process( one wet, one dry) And a box lasts a good long time.

Who Hunts Reg Seasons With Their Muzzleloader?

Although I have the pre-requisite 30-06 with a 3X9 scope, for hunting in Pa. I really much prefer taking my smoothbore flint with me anytime I go out. There’s just something unique about taking a flintlock out under the trees.

Which is historically correct, precut patches or cut at muzzle?

After teading Tumbledowns post I am intrigued. I have to try that. Seems like it would make loading alot quicker in a hunting situation drop the powder charge, grab a ball by the trheaded end and and seat it. Sounds like fun!

    SQUIRREL HUNTING RIG

Thank you Jetmech. Its a TOTW gun built over 25 years ago by a friend of mine. I traded an Enfield muskettoon for it and have never looked back. It’s 62 cal. 20 gauge. Shoots roundball very very well and has accounted for a good number of squirrels also.

Second attempt at a Lyman pouch

I dyed it with Feibings. As for the stitching sometimes I use one of those eight pronged stitch chisels. This one was all done with an awl one hole at a time. I will admit I kind of rushed the job, don’t really know why. Probably because I got tired of looking at it amd wanted it off my workbench!

Second attempt at a Lyman pouch

I had some 3oz veg tan in the box, so I thought I would try my hand at another Lyman pouch. I have not dyed any leather before so it was a first time for that, I’m kind of pleased with the results.

Fusil de Chasse , new to me one

I got mine from a friend who passed. The muzzle was damaged so I cut the gun down. I really enjoy shooting this gun. I’m not sure who the maker is, the only mark on the barrel is in the photos below. Does anyone recognize that makers mark? Thanks, Kevin

Leaving the range even more confused (Load development)

Have you tried ballistop and water lube? Or a mix of beeswax and olive oil? I use windex with vinegar to swab and also for final clean up. I second the thought that you change only one thing at a time. I would start with swabbing- one wet amd one dry between shots. Don’t let the fouling build...

Who among us are PIPE smokers?

We have a regular crew at our club. When the shooting is done we plug in the coffee pot, and break out the pipes and or cigars. It’s time for us to relax, have a smoke and break each others shoes. It’s a social gathering, and alot of days of late, we don’t even get to the shooting!

Question regarding the use of tow in a smoothbore

Ok, I have a shortened fusil in 62 cal. I want to shoot the gun in a more traditional way, Ive been experimenting with paper wadding and have had some success. But I want to try using some of this great wad of tow that I somehow accumulated. My question is do you treat the tow with anything to...

What's your go to lube recipe?

one gun likes ballistol and water 3-1 The other two like olive oil amd beeswax. That I melt in a double boiler and it has a soft-ish consistency its tough to explain properly but it wont melt in the summer but stays soft in the cold. Sorry if I confused you with that Kevin
