What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Shot the smoothbore in the snow today. I am turning a shed into a bunkhouse on a piece of property I just bought. The plan is to build two houses, one for vacation and the other to AirB&B. The bunkhouse will just be a place to hang my hat while building. The property is only one mile from the...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I shot my .54 today in the rain which was a new experience for me. The first two shots were perfect. Ten klatches and three pans of powder and an alcohol swab later, I finally got the third to go off… and flinched. No spark. I decided that shooting in the rain, isn’t a dream. It was fun to get...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Last night I engraved a powder horn and today, I ran to get Rit dye and have stained the horn probably four times. It’s hardly taking the color. Grrr… I also spent have the day reading old posts here as well. That part was good. :)

    I toured a 15th century fort

Fort Thungen in Luxembourg. They had maybe a dozen different firearms on display, muskets and pistols. Some match locks, most flintlocks, and just a couple percussion. Some of the muskets were “wall guns” design to be shot with the forearm supported. The size of the flint for this had to be a...

What’s Your Favorite Long Gun that You own.

I have five flintlocks and four of them are really fine with provenance, but my favorite is my 62” smoothbore in 20. It is a daily driver and shoots better than I do. It is light, practically points itself and feels like an extension of my arms. I honestly feel lucky to own them all but this one...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Today, I toured an 11th century castle in Ghent, Belgium. The castle was amazing but they had a bunch of muzzleloaders and other weaponry displayed and I took pictures for you guys. Many of them were beyond my ability to identify but I thought it may be fun to see. I toured another castle...

    Hard to load overshot cards!

I think you misread that. A quarter distance of the radius, not a quarter of the card. Sorry if that was confusing.

    Hard to load overshot cards!

Just cut a small slice through the edge of the card. Like you’d start to slice a piece of pie but only a quarter of the way.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I drove up to a local make shift range today and launched about fifteen balls out of my .40 cal Mike Brooks I nicknamed “ Delilah” by the original owner. All I can say is either Delilah or I, or both of us together were on FIRE. I felt Like I couldn’t miss for the first time in my flintlock...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Took my girlfriend out to shoot a flintlock for the first time today. Set about five pop cans from 25-50 yards and, after she watched me shoot once, she totally chickened out. On the bright side, I got to shoot half a dozen times after maybe a months time. Totally fun.

I stretched a tanned Rattlesnake skin that I want to see as a hatband for a Christmas present.
