If ignition is poor, you might want to drill the vent hole bigger and tap for vent liner. That tiny cross hole looks small.

I use Johnson paste wax, two coats. [still have several tubs] I like Dave's idea of heat, I will have to try it next time.

Is there a side set screw? Is the post threaded? You may need to turn a brass screw down and use it for the post. This is what I have done with my home made sights.

Building my first rifle with a swamped barrel. Do the key slots run parallel with the bore or the bottom of the barrel?

What pre-carve stock did you choose to use for this build?

If it is a new kit, no need to thin. Just did one. Very important is to do the 4 minute stir.

Pathfinder, what are diameters at the breech and muzzle? I have always liked the idea of a short rifled barrel on an English fowler type stock. What is the weight of the 62 cal. barrel?

Found this one from 06. wiped between shots. 27" Douglas barrel.

After cleaning, stand the rifle on it's nose letting the barrel drain.

I re-cut my ram rod channel, it was 3/8" and just looked small for my 62 cal. [Short Virginia] made it 7/16". I also roughed in for the thimbles. Just made them a bit short. Laying on the bench was a 7/16" ejector pin. [Hardened pin wit a head] Ground the head to a sharp edge at .518" diameter...
