    Another Nessmuk

Ok lets try this again. Here's a preview of what this small Nessmuk will look like with thin sheep horn scales. The scales need to be fitted, drilled, and glued up. I'll probably finish this up next week so stay tuned...tippit

Moderators Please Delete My Post...tippit The knife was designed around 1840. If I am posting the wrong ideas here, I'm sorry about the para cord but I explained I was trying the knife before adding a handle of antler or wood. I'll stop posting.

    Another Nessmuk

I liked my larger 10 inch Nessmuk so much that I decided to forge a smaller one as a belt knife. 8 & 1/2 inch Nessmuk from 5160 carbon steel, blade is thin & sharp, and tang is drilled for a handle of either split antler or some nice wood. Wrapped a Para Cord handle so I could try it out...

    Knife for the Turkey Hunter

You could make a vent pick with a turkey foot and spur.

    Knife for the Turkey Hunter

The spur isn't on either the femur or tibia bone. It is attached to the next lower bone...metatarsal which is too small to make a blade to fit.

Problem is I have too many passions...traditional archer, fly fishing, my horses, and forging mostly knives.

I only hunt with a longbow or recurve. Here at the farm I probably have 50 bows plus I also make some. Normaly I'd be hunting hogs all winter & spring on my 4 thousand acre lease in South Georgia except the Covid 19 has kept me at home in my blacksmith shop.

You have obviously read G. W. Sears book Woodcraft and Camping. When I make a copy of your Nessmuk, I'll post it here. Thanks

    Nessmuk knife

Y'all convinced me...gotta forge up another one. A little smaller maybe bone or moose antler handle, and a cross draw sheath.

    Nessmuk knife

Lobo, I like the simplicity of that Nessmuk. I may have to forge one like it.

Decide the Turkey Tibia bone knife looked a little bland...tea stained.

    Brute de Forge Knife

All my knives are formed with just hammers. I started forging as a stress relief exercise almost 20 years ago. In the beginning I gave all my knives away either to hunting partners or more to charity. That knife sold for $1800 on a St Judes Children's Hospital Auction. Still makes me feel...
