    Gold Stripe Ticking

Anyone here used the gold striped ticking available at Walmart as patching? My local Walmart might be the only non-Super center left in America and has no fabric section. Since I was at the Lagrange, GA Wally World last week I took the opportunity to look through their fabric section. The...

    Smashing flints

It sounds like your lock needs some tuning and love. To my knowledge L and R has never made a product that just plain didn't work. I am not an L and R expert though. You may want to go back to the first answer you got here though and use a significantly longer flint. Anyone with a rock-lock...

Well, I have alcohol on my property and it is more dangerous than a violent convict. We take precautions in life, and risk. Risk can be mitigated, which is why I only drink two days a week now.

    FFG at Grafs

Just for grins I ordered 4 pounds of Swiss 3f from Powder Valley last week. Today at 11:34 AM FedEx tried to deliver it to my house(sig required). FedEx, already the worst delivery service in these United States, tried to deliver a Sig Req package to a house at 11:34AM on a Sunday in rural...

    Wow! Beautiful!

    FFG at Grafs

Got an email to this effect a few days ago. All the powder houses are in stock for the moment. Sadly it would cost more in gas and take a Smokey and The Bandit type run for me to actually drive to any of them from Alabama.

    Smashing flints

I too dislike crescent buttplates despite being fully aware of how they are meant to be used. I cut the top of a brass crescent buttplate off and smoothed it flat to make it more usable for me. But back to your lock conundrum: you want the angle of the flint striking the frizzen to be similar...

    Powder Magazine

Been there already twice in my life. One was the first MLer I bought myself almost 20 years ago and let sit up with pyrodex in it, and the other, well, it wasn't a stuck ball so much as a failure to ignite the main charge.

Well this devolved into exactly what my post asked not to be done. Glad I didn't have notifications on. I'll just stick with what I have already.

    Turkeys are gobbling.

I know that the turkey season in Georgia, which usually starts mid-March, is designed to start mid-mating season. Since it lasts until May, that would put the beginning of the Strut in February, which we are nearly two weeks into. But that is just for GA. Not sure about the rest of the country.

How Do I Get Rid of Old Percussion Caps?

Jay-sus, Mare-ey, and Joseph... what in seven hells? Well... so much for that... your thread is dead.

Thank you for your experience! Reckon I am on the way to a wooden box with maybe a metal box around it!

    SMR and Tennessee rifles…

I sell guns, I shoot guns, and I was trained to shoot guns(differently than I was raised to). I see fellas nowadays virtually wrap their support hand over the top of an AR hand guard and us their support hand index finger to point at the target. Conversely, old school Camp Perry gents brace...

Javelina with a flintlock southern rifle…

Not unlike grey foxes! Those beggars will eat an entire row of corn in a night! And they smell like cheap marijuana. I grew up visiting my uncle who kept a fox in the house at our family tobacco farm. Frisky the Fox used a litter box. In fact, one Thanksgiving I went with Uncle John to pick...

Javelina with a flintlock southern rifle…

As a secondary aside, I have to hand it to you western folk for spotting a grey swine among a sea of grey scrub! We encounter similar circumstances here on the southeastern side of the nation with whitetails in winter. The beautiful red and tan of summer fades to a vexing grey that matches the...

    Powder Magazine

How do you folks store your powder? I have seen the red steel magazines in shops and so forth. I have watched Bob's video where he advocates for a wooden chest. Over the last few months I acquired enough powder to move it out of the house into the shed. Not worried about moisture or...

Javelina with a flintlock southern rifle…

Had my own swine encounter just this morning! Was headed to the package store when I decided to swing by an old local manse that is for sale, and to be honest, is playing on my speculative real-estate inclined mind. Pulled up to the 5 acre small town corner city lot and said "Um... what?" Large...
