This may have been my source. Like I said, I’ll keep looking. Interesting read though, I promise.

SOLD 1st Model Brown Bess made by Holland and Holland

Bummer for me. I think it is fantastic. Sorry I missed it.

Agreed. I’ll keep looking for the documentation, I already gave it a go once.

    Painted Stocks

That isn’t what I have read but I’ll let someone more knowledgeable than I answer that. I’ve heard that very few were Beech and most were walnut. Where I read that would take some backtracking.

    Painted Stocks

I am SO lucky. I bought six flintlocks in three or four months and two are Mike Brooks and one is an Allen Martin. This rifle was the first purchase and is probably my favorite. Unfortunately, in my circle, no one appreciates them- my friends think my appreciation and affection is strange...

    Painted Stocks

Here is mine. It’s a Mike Brooks via Allen Martin. It took forever to figure out a roundball load but I’ve got it down now.

A repost from IG but I’d love to hear some thoughts

Shameless but I’d love to hear some thoughts on that rifle. It’s public knowledge so I hope this isn’t some transgression. Henry "Sam" Colvin moved from SW Pennsylvania in the 1850s crossed the great plains and settled in Oregon. Sam's occupation was "Hunter" and in 1857 he contracted with...

    POLISHING THE PRIMING PAN

I have considered polishing the pan on one of mine because the frizzen and the pan don’t mate up perfectly and I live in the Northwest, so rain is a certainty. I was considering using plumbers packing tape (the Teflon/tar type string) to outline the pan before you close the frizzen. Has anyone...

    Smoothbores....

Or you can just carry two guns. On a side note, I just had my best grouping out of my 20 smoothbore after months of experimenting with different loads. With a patched roundball and 75+ grains of 2f, I was consistently hitting about 12” right of center at 25 yards. This weekend, I decided to...

FFFFFFFFFpowder????? I just have to laugh

Is FFFFFFFFFg the correct and preferred product label? Can it just read 9F or 9Fg? I am guessing the ATF would required the “g” for those of us that still read.

FFFFFFFFFpowder????? I just have to laugh

Maybe they don’t know the answer but are new and just excited to chat and exchange with a living being and feel like part of a community chatting. Maybe, in their excitement, they didn’t take the time to read the dozens of header and footer notes and realize all the tools available. I saw all...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I ordered two bag molds from Larry Callahan and repaired a turtle shell powder flask and re-laced a wool pullover hunting frock. Hunting season can’t come soon enough!
