I suppose my patch is froze.....

Up in this country if you are not willing to hunt in the cold you will not get much hunting done. Muzzle loader season runs from December 1st to January 15th lol.

I suppose my patch is froze.....

Good Idea, I believe I am doing that right now and didn't even think of it lol. I left all my bp supplies (including lubed patches) in the pickup last night. I will go check them out right now!!!

I suppose my patch is froze.....

Great, thanks for the replies, I think I can rest easy now. I wonder if it would be a good idea to shove a little powder down the flash channel to help ensure the gun will fire this evening?

I suppose my patch is froze.....

I loaded my gpr this afternoon for an afternoon hunt. I cleaned all the oil out of the rifle and let it set out in the garage for awhile then I hauled it out to the hunting grounds in a case in the bed of the pick up. Ensuring that the gpr was good and cold I loaded it up and set off hunting in...

IF you could only hunt one animal...

elk hands down, only got to hunt them once since you can only draw a tag once about every 20 years on average here but it would be so fun to do with a muzzy.

    100 yard RB accuracy ?

the best i have done with my .54 gpr is 3" groups at 100 and i am not a rondy guy. I hunt and that is more than good enough for hunting.

Great Plains vs Browning vs Safari?

I have the gpr in a .54 using a .530 rb and 90 grains of ffg. It punches a 3" group at 100 off sandbags, as long as you can hold steady through the process i dont think a flinter would be any different.

    Same Turkey

sometimes i think about leaving my calls at home and just bringing the decoys. I only hunt turkeys with a bow and dont call that much. I simply just put the decoys on a high and visible spot in a specified "strut zone". If i hear turkeys in the distance i yelp once then put the calls away for...

Merriams on the Nebraska/S. Dakota Line?

I Have killed many merriams just north of valentine on the rosebud indian res. near mission, south dakota. The country around there consists of alot of oak creek bottoms. One benefit of the valentine area is the niobrara river which i am assuming would hold alot of birds. If the hunting around...

any truth to breaking in a barrel ??

i am faily new to this too. when i bought my .54 gpr last summer it was cutting patches but still shot "okay" groups. After about 100 rounds it stopped cutting patches and slowly turned into a tack driver. I have heard that 1:48 twist barrels shoot roundballs better with smaller powder charges...
