Accounting for fowling shot when hunting

I swab with denatured alcohol before hunting to remove oil, in the barrel and flash channel. If I am shooting to zero on the range, wiping with denatured alcohol is close to a clean bore. Leaving a fouled bore for even a couple days, may be asking for trouble.

Frozen hunts, fowling shots, spit patch

For me, something close to all purpose is simpler. My perspective of a blackpowder firearm, is an internal combustion engine. Water to clean, ok; water to shoot, (spit) not for me. What is the reasonable distance to quickly kill a turkey with a muzzleloader?

I share your concern with long shots on turkey, when your kill zone is basically the head and neck, pattern density is critical. I use my .54/28ga smoothbore in a flintlock Vermont rifle configuration. The two big toms I shot were within 15 yards. I use a stiff powder charge and lots of lead...

    Kinda weird elk hunt

Gee, I was waiting to see an elk lashed to your bike. :D Can you camp beyond the gate? That way you could work a two day hunt / one trip out of it...

    T/C Hawken Flintlock

I wouldn't fix what isn't broken. If it shoots well, leave it alone. If you have to try this new touchhole liner, make sure it is 100% reversible in case it doesn't work out.
