It was growing at the base of an oak stump. There were several more small ones around the circumference of the stump that I will be watching. Agreed, HotW is my favorite mushroom. I cook, freeze, and dehydrate the tender parts and dehydrate and grind the tougher areas and add to seasoning salt. DW

My daughter and grandson came up yesterday for a walk in the woods. We were mainly scouting some winter camp sites, but also hoping for some Hen of the Woods. Just a small haul, about 8 pounds. But had a great day!! DW
