Nope to DGW I checked the usual suspects before posting. Well there is no hurry to replace it now, I have lost, well misplaced, the lock screw in the shop somewhere.

VTI is out of stock. Brownells does not list it

Another lesson. I started the barrel inlet with just soot from an oil lamp. Spent many hrs chasing these small marks back. Soot, mark, cut,soot mark cut. I finally concluded that something was wrong, the back sure looked flat, sure enough I was only getting partial transfer. Soot it up good...

Another thought. The next one is going to be a plank build.I think I want more control of everything! The pointy bits of the lock and side plate are smaller than the precut inlet

So I have been plugging away at it. So far Barrel inlet Butt plate inlet Lock's in and got the sideplate set last night. There sure are alot of wood chips on the floor. So some lessons I have learned. If you have not inlet before, or not for years, practice on something else. Mine could be...

It's a .62 smoothrifle, Rice fowler barrel.

For 50 years I have taken brass to a high polish then let it age. On my new build, a smoothrifle, I will have a super high polish and it is going to be kept shiny 🌟

Last few evenings have been dropping the barrel a bit more at the breach, and getting the barrel sanded out.

Looks like my barrel channel is going to be nice and thin to match this spot.

So the truck showed up last evening with my smoth rifle. Checked it all out, looked good. Unbreeched the barrel today and got her set, I think.

You should not worry about the little things, now go make sure you have an acceptable stitch count per inch in your breeches.😆

It ripped ¾ of the thread that was holding, so that much is lost. I would have to grind better than ³/¹⁶ to get the threads to engage. I will look around for a replacment before I try mods. It is a solution.

Tore the lock down and found that there was barley more than 1 thread holding the screw. Now the hunt begins...

I was taking a few shots off the porch yesterday, and what has been a reliable lock started to "clatch" repeatedly. After the last try, I started to investigateand noticed this. This is a trade gun BTW.
