You know you wanna cast your own! Get the stuff to do it and don't look back. When my local scrap yard gets soft lead in, they will call me. Last time I got some they charged me .26 a pound, by the time you cast 400 balls, you will have paid the equipment off.

When I'm out with my Kibler, I have 2 ball boards totaling 34 shots. Sometimes all get shot, other times not, but I rarely go above that. With other stuff that I am cutting patches for and whatnot, probably 20. Never really counted.

Definitely a fly problem! I lost mine unknowingly when I disassembled my lock for finishing and it did exactly what you are describing. One call and they had me all set! Wonderful company to deal with.

It will work just fine! If it's not shooting well for you, adjust your powder charge or patch thickness until you are getting a good group! It's a labor of love. A word of warning though, if those are prelubed patches, they can really turn into a headache as they never seem to be lubed enough...

Yep, for the sake of simplicity, I use 3f in the pan and main charge. Quite a few people use 3f even in their .62 smoothbores!

.40 is the smallest caliber you can shoot a deer with here in VA, but its also small enough that you can shoot the snot out of it without breaking the powder and lead bank! Lead consumption is not a linear trend as caliber goes up.
