    What did you do today

Sadly, moved all my shooting kit into what I think is going to be long term storage. As most of us here in the UK are obliged to shoot on ‘approved’ ranges, I fear it’s going to be a while. Nothing needs cleaning, got enough balls and bullets cast lubed and sized where needs be, cut a million...

I was going to click ‘like’ but ‘liking’ you having back problems through fighting for your country doesn’t seem right, maybe the Mods will put in a ‘I salute you’ button?

Remembring one of my trips to Florida, I thought of Wendy's. The best breafast. So I Googled it. Cut a long story short, made my version of Wendy's Chicken Sandwich Along wit my 'birds nest' fries - yaffled in minutes. Thanks Wendy, you have lovely buns. 😘

    What did you do today

Ordered a conical bullet mould for my ROA and spent an hour in the fettling shed tidying up. To cold and damp to be out there long. Heard about the passing of a lovely man, Bill Curtis, old age (comes to us all). So tonight I shall raise a glass to the memory of one of life’s gentleman and mine...

577 wads - your thoughts please

David, Thank you, possible wad staying in the base problem was what prompted the post. My best results so far with the lee ph mould bullet, dip lubed and sized down to .565. I fiddle with a lathe and have made a couple of jigs to use on my Wamadet press. This of course takes out most of the...

577 wads - your thoughts please

I make my own pistol wads and during lock-downs I have probably made about two years supply for about fifteen quid. My thoughts turned to my PH Enfield and ways of making life better. I have amost, i think, found the right sized bulet but, in resizing, most of the lube is removed. Woke this...

    1853 Enfield Clay plugs

Yes, that’s the stuff. I read an article somewhere that someone has used it successfully. Plain hollow base is producing the best results for me although I have yet to go beyond 100 yards.

    1853 Enfield Clay plugs

The plugs were effective, I have tried them using both wood ( a real pitb to make) and Milliput clay. They didn’t perform consistently because I suspect that some did and some did not separate in flight. I have found that a service, or near to it, charge with bullets sizrd to suit the bore...

    Advice/Suggestions 1861 Enfield clone

I agree, live with it, it’s part of the gun’s history. In three generations time it will give it’s new custodian a point of interest. If you must change it put in a replacement brass insert with something which ties it to you, or start a list of owners names perhaps.
