Here's a "tin can test" I did at 10 yards with my Harper's Ferry smoothbore pistol. It was loaded with 40 grains of 777, an equal amount of #5 shot, and two felt wads.

What caliber?

I filed down the notch a little and it's fitting more evenly. I also might try some JB Weld for better fitment.

Tried 20 grs. Same thing.

Went to shoot my Pietta 1858 loaded with 25 grs of 777 and the loading lever kept coming down. I looked at the notch where it catches and it's not a great fit. Also the screw that holds it in the receiver was a little loose. Do you think that was the issue? Thanks

That's a great price, I just shot mine yesterday. Fun little gun.

What determines which gun you're going to shoot on a given day? Maybe you bring several. I only bring one at a time, since I'm lazy about cleaning. Just for kicks, I'm gonna start lowest to highest in caliber, starting with my NAA .22 Super Companion and ending with my .76 cal smoothy...

What do you think about one of those cheap brass framed "Navy" .44s being kept in the truck? Maybe for impromptu shooting sessions or whatever. How long would the powder stay good over time, under various weather conditions? Thanks
