    Locating top of round barrel for sight mounting

    Assuming you can identify the breech end's center Hang a plumb bob so it just touches touches the top of the barrel on the breech end. Plumb bob just touching the muzzle end will also be just as centered as the breech end.

    Round Balls With Dimples

    Heard that the chewed round balls were a result of the solider chewing on the balls to handle thirst. The cold metal would feel cooling to the mouth and promote salivating to mositen a dry thirsty throat. Chewed on balls were put back in the bag and shot or chewed again as they grabbed for more.

    Advice to new builders:

    Will order a kit myself next week. Am doing so much research on various points of it. Like a rabbit hole with no end. In the end it is metal and wood. Will be carried and used in the mud and the muck, leaned against trees, who knows what else. It will be alright.
