How Long Do You Expect A Frizzen To Last ?

I use a low temp solder that flows at about 450 degrees - Stay-Silv. Plenty of strength to hold the plate to the frizzen.

How Long Do You Expect A Frizzen To Last ?

I've had to reface many imported frizzens with a piece of good high carbon steel from a band saw blade. Once installed they will last a LONG time, in fact have never worn one out.

    Ithica Navy Hawken value?

Condition is everything, but these were top drawer rifles and probably the most "Authentic" of the "Hawken" replicas. Ithaca only made them for about 18 months, and while I've never heard how many were made, can't be many. I've sold them from $400.00 for a average shooter to almost $800.00 for...

    Show me your rebuilds

Built and used this rifle in it's side hammer configuration for a number of years in competition but always felt it was a tad light in the muzzle to hold steady in our Okla. winds so built a new rifle with full length octagon barrel for a bit more weight. The rifle has been sleeping in the vault...

    Can't see sights

Looks a bit odd, I have one old rifle I've done that to and it now has three plugged dovetails and a sight radius about like a long pistol, but it works.

    Patriot Knock-Offs

.36's are out there, but hard to find and pricey when available.

    Old guns and old men

Haven't shot any cartridge gun in several years. When I get a chance to go to the range, I enjoy the slow pace of my muzzleloaders and can spend all afternoon working with them and it don't break the bank to feed them.

    Carrying shot

Pre-measured shot and powder in plastic tubes make for easy use in the field it's keeping and using several different thickness wads that's a hassle.

    PayPal users beware

PayPal closed my account without any notice or warning for selling "Firearms and Firearm related products". I sell nothing but muzzleloading parts. I was given NO chance to appeal or explain my situation. All funds were confiscated. Can't say enough BAD things about this company and their policies!

    First blank build

With even the best kits you are pretty much limited in design, with one from a plank you can do whatever you want. Oldwood gives some good advice. Just be sure you have a good idea of what the finished rifle will look like and don't try to make changes on the fly.

    50 vs. 54

If I could only have one the .50 is more economical and versatile to shoot but fortunately have a big safe that holds plenty of variety.

Building First Rifle, Wrong Breech Plug!

I'll echo the advice to call the supplier, you might make the longer one work but could open up all kinds of new issues.

Hawken Rifles, What's All The Hoopla?!

I built so many of them in the 70's and 80's just got totally burned out on them. Seems everyone wanted a "Hawken". Was so glad when Tennessee rifles and trade guns caught people's interest!
