Changing a double set trigger to a single trigger

Eric, Welding may distort the plate. An alternative may be silver soldering a screw in place and then drill and tap again.

    1851 Plunger

I want to load conical bullets in my Pietta 1851 Colt in .36 cal. I have heard that the Uberti plungers have a plunger that can be used for conical bullets and is interchangeable with the Pietta. Have any of y'all heard this or done this?

Welcome to the forum. If this is a sidelock pistol then ask your question in either the handgun forum or the general muzzleloading forum. True black powder comes in powder form and not pellets. Be sure to include the caliber, twist rate (if you know it) and any photos you might have. The guys...

Eric, what are you using as a punch? I have the same situation with the logo on the side of the barrel.

    Degreasing parts

Agreed, Acetone will work fine. I have used it to degrease barrels before rust browning. Use gloves and PURE cotton balls. Some come with polyester and will leave the dissolved poly on the barrel. No Bueno!

restoring a cam on an 1860 hammer

45D, That's some interesting information. I have a Pietta 1851 Navy which effectively has the same hammer, cam and bolt. I took the hammer out to find that the cam had been damaged and was actually loose in the hammer. I don't have the tools for making a new cam but I will order a new hammer...

    Breech Plug Spacer

I recently posted about my travails with a stubborn breech plug. I finally got the plug removed and checked the seal against the barrel. It does not touch the mating surface of the barrel. I went to the manufacturer and there advice was to insert a stainless or brass spacer between the breech...

    Can't Remove Breech Plug!

Phil, I will try putting the black where you indicated. However, I tightened the plug as far as it will go, i.e. to the witness line that the manufacturer stamped. I was hoping not to have to dress the barrel but I will have to give it a try. I will lubricate the threads of the breech so I...

    Can't Remove Breech Plug!

Well, Ladies and Gents, I finally got the tools needed to remove the breech plug and, Voila! it came off like a champ. Now the problem is that I see three dings where the plug would mate to the barrel and seal it. Whoa, says I what's up with that? So, doing due diligence, I painted inletting...
