Bonehead goof leads to another question.

I misspoke and inserted cam instead of bolt. I think that the arm is falling off correctly. And, I finally got the arm cutout to the size needed to complete the action cycle before it falls on the unexpended cap. The next thing I would like to do is to tune the bolt / trigger spring for...

Bonehead goof leads to another question.

My Pietta was made in 2019 and Pietta has, sometime after that date, started making the cam and integral machined part of the hammer. No more loose cams, Yay!. Glad you were able to get yours working again. Mine was beyond repair. If y'all ever need a new cam I have five.

Bonehead goof leads to another question.

The cam on this hammer is an integrally machined part and not a press fit part. I have not yet observed the cam falling off incorrectly. I think that Pietta had a good idea on that upgrade, My pistol originally came with a press fit cam and one day I noticed the action acting fiddly and being...

Bonehead goof leads to another question.

Thanks, Mike, I have been slowly grinding that section of the bolt to do just that. I am doing it conservatively since I don't have a second bolt.

Bonehead goof leads to another question.

Took my Pietta Colt Navy to the range today. No real problems at the range other than the range officer mentioning (jokingly) that they make semiautomatic pistols now, Got home to do the cleaning and when I reassembled all I couldn't get it to half cock except on a few cylinders. DUH...

    Home Made History

I have been watching him for several years. He has improved his safety practices quite a bit because I wondered how he still had all of his digits and limbs. He truly does some amazing things. His wheel lock pistol build was fascinating.

    Hello from Texas

Welcome from Central Texas. I would invite you to our monthly shoot with the White Smoke Brigade but that's quite a distance for a couple of hours of fun.

    Stupid, stupid, stupid

A friend of mine got caught up in the talk and load mess. He had not gotten the ball all the way down and went up to the line to shoot. It split the barrel like a banana and sent a couple of parts flying. Luckily the only injury was my friends pride. Be aware of what you are doing at all times.

    The first 100 shots

You might invest in Dutch Schoultz's "Black Powder Rifle Accuracy". I believe you can google this and, even though Dutch has passed on I think he passed the publication on to a family member. I don't necessarily hold with his dry patch lubrication but it is an excellent treatise on how to work...

Standard thread size for ramrods and attachments.......

Don't forget that some of the Italian guns have metric threads on their ramrods. I can't speak for the current Pedersoli Great Plains Rifle but the Investarm GPRs have a metric thread.

    CVA brass patchbox cover

I am going to recommend making a new one if that is in your skill set. Here are some photos of mine that was made from German silver. If you Get some 1/16" Brass sheet it could be fashioned into a cover. The hinge pin could be a finishing nail cut to fit.

    Help Identifying Wood type

Did you work with the wood i.e. inlet parts to it? It looks like maple but if you worked the wood and it splinters easily it could be walnut. the two woods react differently to tools.

    Which mountain rifle?

My opinion is to leave it. It has a drum that is inter-threaded with the breech plug. It can be done but not by me. A qualified gunsmith or a replacement barrel if you want to convert.

    Which mountain rifle?

The Traditions should be a good kit but let the stock acclimate to your weather. A friend of mine built one and the stock dried out in the summer and some cracks opened up. Seal the wood as part of the finishing. I have a CVA in percussion that is very accurate and a godd and reliable shooter.

Slipping Set Trigger on Pedersoli Kentucky

FHR, TC is an old rifle. How worn is the trigger mechanism? Follow the advice that you see on this post and other set trigger related posts. If is is worn out seek a replacement from RE Davis.

Slipping Set Trigger on Pedersoli Kentucky

Start by removing the trigger from the gun and testing it. You will get a better idea of how it works by seeing the mechanism in action. It sounds like you have it set too lightly and may need to back off the adjustment screw until you get the pull you desire. Take the advice of EC121 to...

    Oil finish on a stock.....

I have tried BLO, Tung oil and Permalyn. All worked well. I liked Permalyn because you could dial in a satin or glossy finish but it is expensive and makes you have to seal the can from air or it will go bad. BLO gives a nice sheen and does not get real glossy. Tung Oil is good and it is...
