    BP in Alaska

I just saw a post on this forum from last year showing Buffalo Arms advertising that they ship to Alaska. Have you checked them out yet?

    Another Interesting Youtube channel

Great channel. It would be a kick to meet that guy. I've been watching his episode on making a shooting bag several times as that's my next planned leathercraft project. I know I'm going to have to watch all of them. Really like the music on the videos too.

    Brown Bess and ball/loading questions

Please keep us posted on how things go. I'm in a similar place. Picked up a Pedersoli Bess Carbine last Sept. but haven't fired it yet. I haven't gotten into casting lead and was wondering if I'd shoot enough to pay for a melting pot and molds. I ordered .735 balls from TOTW and am now...

What MZL-wise are you getting for Xmas?

I'm getting the second half of the Pedersoli Brown Bess Carbine that I picked up for myself as a combined Birthday/Christmas present last September.

    Winter Shooting

I'm very eager to shoot my new (to me) Brown Bess carbine but I think I'll wait until it warms up a bit. I freeze my fingers at work on a fairly regular basis and the more I freeze them the more they seem prone to going numb. Since I don't really know what I'm doing with flintlocks yet it...

    BP in Alaska

The last batch I bought was from Great Northern Guns in Anchorage. There was a change in ownership there and the new management had to reapply to the feds to stock black powder again. I was there last summer and they were still working on it. Not sure where they're at but I just wrote to them...

    Making paper cartridges

Thanks for all the great information here. I've been watching this thread with interest since I acquired a Pedersoli Brown Bess carbine earlier in the fall. I have yet to shoot it but thought shooting with paper cartridges might be easier on fingers for shooting in colder weather. I see both...

    Fist squirrel with Bess

Very nice! Is that the full length Bess or carbine? Nice gift. I got a Bess carbine this last fall as a wife endorsed self-gifted birthday present. Sounds like we both did well in the spouse department. I'm planning to take mine out after grouse, as our scrawny red squirrels would probably...

    Hello from the Bitterroot Valley

Welcome from Fairbanks, AK. I need to get to see your neck of the woods some day. I haven't been there yet but my Dad grew up in Wilsall in the 20's and 30's.

    Traditions Locks

A friend of mine gave me a flintlock Trapper pistol. I've only fired it 20 or 30 times but it went off every single time and I'm a total amateur when it comes to flintlocks.

    Greetings from Finland!

Welcome from a similar latitude in Fairbanks Alaska! This hobby is a good inspiration for projects that can be worked on by the fire in the dead of winter. I just finished a powder horn strap and next one will either be a screw plug for the powder horn or turning a worn out leather jacket into...

    Screw tip horn

Thanks! Your pictures and explanation are very helpful. Think I'll give that a try. At least I'm starting with an inexpensive horn if I mess up too bad.

FLINTLOCK FEMALE FUN shooting with Lisa....

Fun! Thanks for sharing. Seems like flintlocks would be a natural fit for Harley folks. They're used to things which require a fair amount of fiddling with to function.

    Screw tip horn

    Great information. Thanks!

    Screw tip horn

Very nice! I've thought about modifying mine with a screw plug, since the current plug is loose and I fear I'm apt to end up dumping powder. Is there a tap and die available for those course threads or did you hand carve them?
