Pistol Shooting at loaded pop cans with much delight....

Fun! Great video, thanks for sharing. Now I'm itching to shoot my Trapper pistol again. I love living in Alaska but must admit there's a tinge of envy seeing you shoot in t-shirt weather this time of year. Looks like your warm weather may be going away for a bit soon, however.

    Alaskan 54 poor boy.

Very cool. Please keep us posted on your build and muzzleloader bear hunting adventures. I'm in Fairbanks. I did a little stomping around here after moose with my .54 percussion GPR (Creamer's Field draw hunt) but never got close enough to a moose to feel comfortable taking a shot. Prince...

    Source Of French Flints

I'm in Alaska and there's been a few times when the "robot" quoted a considerably higher price than the shipping actually turned out to be. I think sometimes it defaults to 2nd day air or something. You might try to communicate with an actual human there to see if you can get a better deal.

    Shooting all by one’s lonesome

This was my most eager and willing shooting companion until she passed away about a year ago. I did a little shooting with the Midnight Sun Muzzleloaders here in Fairbanks. They were a friendly and encouraging group. Inactive now, to the best of my knowledge.

    Brown Bess Light Load

Thanks. Going to try it first with no sights, then might seriously consider making a rear sight if that doesn't work. Looks like some folks have made them out of angle stock to attach to the tang screw.

Just exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!

    Brown Bess Light Load

Thanks. Great information there! I didn't realize that kind of accuracy was possible with the Bess. I'd be quite surprised if I'm capable of anything close to that but certainly something to strive for. At least I'm pretty sure I'm going to have a lot of fun with it. Didn't think of the...

    Brown Bess Light Load

Thanks. I'll try that. Seems like I've heard people talking about shooting twice that load but that could use up both my finite powder supply and shoulder pretty quick. Do you know of a source for a manual for that gun? None came with mine and all I can fine online from Pedersoli is a kind...

    Brown Bess Light Load

I have yet to get out to shoot my recently acquired Pedersoli Brown Bess carbine but have been doing a lot of searching around on these forums for advice in the meantime. Sounds like paper cartridges and wads are more popular than a tight patched ball for loading ball. I'll probably try all...

Greetings from the hills of the Highlands

Greetings from Fairbanks, Alaska. You live in some beautiful country. Pictures and movies from the Highlands remind me a lot of some places in Alaska. I just recently got my first flintlock longarm and smoothbore, a Pedersoli Brown Bess Carbine.

    TOTW Screw Kit for Bess

That makes sense. This greenhorn sure appreciates the wealth of knowledge and experience you folks are willing to share here!

    TOTW Screw Kit for Bess

I searched the forums here a while back and found a post where someone listed a #360-3 bit for the side plate screws and a #360-6 bit for the upper jaw screw. I tried to find the post again today with no luck. I ordered the bits from Brownells and they seem to fit the screws fine. The bit for...

    TOTW Screw Kit for Bess

That does help. Thanks! A metric tap and die set would come in handy for other unmentionable projects as well. I wasn't aware of the blank screws at TOTW but will certainly check it out.

    TOTW Screw Kit for Bess

Thanks. Yes, a bit pricey but good to know they're available.

    TOTW Screw Kit for Bess

Thanks. I did search the forum found a post stating the proper screwdriver size for Pedersoli and ordered some bits from Brownells. Still would feel better with some spares. Always a good chance of me doing something ham fisted or having the cat in the garage swat hardware off into oblivion.

    TOTW Screw Kit for Bess

I was browsing the TOTW online catalog and I noticed they sell a screw replacement kit for the Brown Bess. Anyone know if those would only fit an original, or would they also be compatible with my Pedersoli Bess Carbine replica? I was thinking a few extra screws would be good to have in the...

    Tang screws

Interesting. I purchased that same sight for my percussion GPR a few years ago and I don't seem to recall having to come up with any extra hardware to mount it.

    Cleaning Rod Help

I like my Traditions brass takedown rod. Seems like it wasn't too expensive and if not long enough you could get two of them and screw on another section or two.
