Round ball patch size and accuracy

Maybe not. Two different rifles, different barrels, different bores, different muzzles But keep trying.

    .32 load help

You'll be lucky if you can do that many with the Wonderlube. But I think the Pyrodex may be helping you there.

Why the "patent breech" design ?

Sometimes you have the feeling that a long and incoherently rambling posting has some genuine germs of valuable insight and information in it. But you just can't extract them.

Round ball patch size and accuracy

I confess that I don't see the relevance of any of those videos to the questions being asked about the size and effect of patches. They seem to be just generic/introductory videos on the the use of antique arms. If there is something specifically relevant in them to the questions at hand...

Round ball patch size and accuracy

As far as I can tell, neither exact size (within reasonable limits) or shape matters. Have never had any problem on my .50 GPR, and I use hand-cut 3/4" square patches in my .32 Crockett. The size of those isn't exact, and the shape is what I refer to as "generally or mostly square-ish"...

    Small chisel sharpening??

I still have a few Stanley wood chisels I got from my father as a gift when I was 12. So they're about 63 years old. They've been through a lot, but still work and sharpen up just fine. 😂

    Small chisel sharpening??

I have a chisel jig and tried to use it a few times. That was about 25 years ago. At some point I became a proponent of the Roy Underhill approach to sharpening chisels and plane irons. My summation of this is "This isn't an exact science and there are several ways to the true result. Don't...

Messing with my squirrel load again

Why not just sand down the short starter so the patch doesn't grab it? The only function of a starter or ram rod is to push the ball. It doesn't have to be tight against the patch and sides of the barrel to do this, and there is no reason for it to be held by friction with the patch material.

Messing with my squirrel load again

I feel your pain. We're rural, but I still don't like to open up on the squirrels when our nearby neighbors are at home. My wife tried one of those big strong stream water guns (with an ammonia mixture in it), but she got a cheap one and it was hard for her to pump. I think a better one might...

Messing with my squirrel load again

If you're having trouble with a jag "grabbing" patches and pulling them out, you're jag is probably a bit too big for your barrel and patch thickness. I had that problem and had to significantly reduce the diameter of the head on my jag. Suddenly, things got a lot easier -- including cleaning...

You can get brass punches on Amazon. Grace is a pretty good brand. Of course places like Midway and Brownell's have them as well. You should probably have five or six sizes. For any gun work you may need steel punches too. You'll use them not only as punches, but as "pins" to align holes so...

My original screw resides in my "small parts" gun box. Brass is a good choice and will look nice. 👍 I couldn't find one around here when I was looking and setteled for the SS. Brass is soft, but easy to replace. In those circumstances, I always buy a few. In general, however, I'm a fan of...

I think I got mine at a True Value hardware store. But it took a while with a file and sandpaper in the drill press to downsize the head for that tang.

So a couple of things here: (1) Regarding the screw hole problem with the rib ... I encountered the same problem when I took the rib off and tried to put it back on. It was clear at that point that the rib was slightly bowed and that the screws would bend it flat against the barrel, but that...

One final modification I made to my Crockett was to replace the front sight. After some initial experimentation with alternative sights (front and back), I reinstalled the original rear sight, got a nickel blade front sight from TOW (that required NO modification for the base to fit the Crocket...

Oh, sorry I forgot to mention that. It's a bit of a pain. It's actually too tight only on one side, but that's enough. I just filed down two opposing sides of my Traditions (I think) wrench. The alternative would be to remove a little of the metal where the nipple fits in itself. But I...

Good to have that kind of service. I put blue locktite on all those thimble screws and on the screws holding the rail to the barrel. They're all pretty short, and I had some loosen up after I'd tightened them and without Loctite. Another mod I made was to replace the tang screw with a hex...

How long ago did you get that rifle? I got mine from Midway at the end of Sept. in 2021. I wonder if it may have suffered from being made during the Covid scourge (which hit parts of Europe particularly hard).
