    Indian Spanish Musket

Barrel thickness? So heavy that the balance point is towards middle of gun.

    Indian Spanish Musket

My Indian Spanish musket has real brass, but the gun is so front heavy, I can’t hold it on target. I thought it was me (being old) but my young neighbor said it is really heavy. Way heavy for a smoothbore.

    Dare I post the link?

I still see the muskets for sale ….old ones at antique stores and newer ones as souvenirs at historical places. Of course they have the bright orange muzzle cap

    Dilemma sort of

I am not a builder. But it seems like I had to modify everything on the gun so far. I have no idea what my buddy did with the original locks. Second one should be easier now that I figured out what needed done.

    Dilemma sort of

I forgot to say that I reshaped the cock and frizzen to look more like a Potsdam lock. And as expected, the Indian frizzen isn’t hardened 😵‍💫

    Dilemma sort of

The lock is finally fitted. It took some doing and maybe a little bit of filler. I need to drill and tap lock to accept 12-32 lock bolts.

    Dilemma sort of

I am almost there. I am so close (at least for me) that I probably won’t need to add wood or recut the inletting. Since I am using a generic lock, I am running into different inletting problems. The reinforced section of the lock plate, that rests against the side of the barrel, is what is...

    Dilemma sort of

Nice job. I will take some pics of the areas that need work. The shape of the plate is different just in this area. Last pic shows todays progress. Almost there.

    Dilemma sort of

I have picked up a few cheap muskets that were missing parts (mostly locks). These are Indian manufactured guns and who knows how well they copied their guns. Two of the guns are Potsdam muskets and there doesn’t seem to be a source for parts. I have bought a handful of locks with similar but...

    More gun clutter

The one Potsdam will need a fairly major repair to the bottom of the buttstock adjacent to the butt plate. I will probably then have to stain the sock to blend in (hide) the repair.

    More gun clutter

Indian Teak that hasn’t been stained or painted. One has a little sap wood but is not soft or spongy. Teak can be quite nice if it is solid without too much or any sapwood.

    More gun clutter

I picked up a couple of Potsdam muskets and a 1795 Springfield from him. All missing locks and both Potsdam’s have some wood damage.. Wood is beautiful though.

Original British Brunswick P-1841 type Early Model Officer Musket - Untouched Condition (Smoothbore)

Starbond and sawdust is a magic combination. I buy Starbond by the pint and fill the small bottles myself. The Starbond thin is a great wood finish.

    Antique Gun Dealers

My buddy lives near their shop and just traded his old Japanese Matchlock even for a nice India Pattern Brown Bess. He said that the actual shop. is like a museum.

    Joann's - what am I doing wrong ?

I went to JoAnns to get some pillow ticking. They didn’t know what I was talking about. Of course when I entered the store there was a larger than life employee recruiting sign. I couldn’t tell by the picture who or what they were looking to hire. They are so woke, I won’t be going back.

    Antique Gun Dealers

I don’t know if mentioning a specific dealer is ok or not, But the Collectors Armoury in California has a website loaded with arms and armor from every era. Awesome site.

    Proper metal finish for matchlock

I understand original guns left in the white, but the Indian guns look like the bumper of a 57 Chevy.

    Comments on this wheelock?

I purchased cube pyrite also on ebay. There is a diamond wheel on Amazon that fits the dremel quick release attachment. It cuts the cubes like butter. You have to wear a mask because it is extremely dusty. The same wheel was mentioned above.

    Matchlock Question

A little while back I picked up a matchlock casting kit from another forum’s classifieds section. It is one from the Rifle Shop. I am not sure exactly how it goes together, but at first it needs a lot of cleaning up. Filing, grinding and polishing! Fast forward a week or two and I have the...
