    I got a screw loose!

So after a bit more reading up on the subject, i do not think I have a short arbor on either of the piettas. If i put the barrel on at 90 degrees more or less, it looks like it lines up ok. If i rotate it, it looks spot on. I took a picture but I had to take it at an angle. I am trying to...

    Pietta 1851 noobie first impressions

I think you are correct. Once i am back up and running, i 0lan to try several of the caps i have. So far, the winchester magnum #11 work best but i need to try some others. I have the stock nipples on right now.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I cleaned up an old plate shooting box that I found at an estate sale for 2 bucks. No one knew what it was. My plate shooting box is black so this red one will be for muzzle loading. Must be close to 50 years old but the plastic is fine. This one was sold at Sears.

    Best lead for casting ball?

Sure. Just do not use aluminum pots. Cast iron works. I had a friend who used a shovel and a blow torch but i dont recommend it.

    Best lead for casting ball?

About 30 years ago, we ran a small fishing lure business. We got almost all of our lead from the local hospitals. They could only use the lead so many times before they needed to get rid of it. I remember it was still clean by contamination standards. I am guessing those days are over with...

    Best lead for casting ball?

It is not just the hardness. Some of the other metals will create an alloy that will tend to shrink a bit while cooling. This has always been the problem for me in the past with unmentionables. I was a fan of shooting oversized bullets for plate shooting. Having my babies shrink meant they...

    Best lead for casting ball?

A friend gave me a spool of tin wire. Not sure what its original purpose was. I didn't use much of that. Pewter was from mugs and plates that were sold as collectable items but were just decorations that people used on the wall or on a shelf. Thrift shops or in my case, my moms basement. I...

Actual Weights of Different Powders Measured by Volume

Wow I cannot decide what I like most about this new hobby. I think the lingo. As a long time reloader of pistol and rifle rounds, this whole measuring weight by volume has been the hardest to wrap my head around. Sure i did it as a kid with Norma but come on...and i have used volume feeders...

    I got a screw loose!

Thanks. These are new piettas. Next step is to find some small split washers and see what I see. Not sure I can do too much damage playing with spacers. I have read where some say the wedge should be tightly installed. Others say just as long as it is in there. I would assume a tight...

    I got a screw loose!

I examined both Piettas today after reading a bit about short arbors. At this point, I am not convinced it is my issue. My only experience is with Dan Wessons. I had a 14-2 and 15-2 Munsons. Too tight and no cycle. They came with a metal gauge to set the gap. Concept has got to be the same...

    Best lead for casting ball?

Agreed. My collection is old but I got to the point where I use my smallest pot. I got to the point where i would start with the roofing lead and then add a specific amount of pewter or just tin. Now for muzzloaders, pure lead is the ticket best I can recon.

    Best lead for casting ball?

I would think the same for old sailboat ballast. Just spitballing. I have 2 5 gal pails of wheel weight and have no idea how to tell which ones are no goes. Depending on where you live.

    Best lead for casting ball?

I have found lead roof flashing to be great for casting softest boolits. Do not use batteries please. It is not worth it.

Cap Jams … again. But this solved my issue

I have seen such videos. My question is why are they part of the design?

    I got a screw loose!

Gave the twin to my buddy. His first muzzleloader although he has hunted his whole life. It would not cycle after we loaded it although it seemed fine when I cleaned it and wiped it with Ballistol. We got a few shot off but that was it. In the interest of safety I said we are done dealing...
