    Flintlocks and manual transmissions

I remember when they used to say " Learn to drive a manual. Then you can drive anything." Quite true! I've come to realize that, if you can accurately and consistently shoot a flintlock, you can accurately and consistently shoot anything else. The discipline required to master a flintlock...

Vinegar. It not just for salads anymore... It should also lightly etch the surface, being an acid. Thanks for the tip!

    Bluing TC lock

Hi All I once saw pics of a TC custom shop Hawken iron mounted and blued. The blued lock REALLY caught my eye! Very attractive compared to the usual " matte" finish. Wish they would've polished it a little bit... Anyway. I don't know if the color case hardening on these locks is real, or a...

    Powder Charges?

I shoot all kinds of muzzleloaders, in .50 and .54 calibers. They all shoot just dandy with 70 grain charges of 3f Swiss. Its nice on the shoulder AND I get one hundred shots per pound. Easy to keep track of things. If one enjoys heavy charges, and the rifle doesn't mind, by all means charge on...

    T/C Pennsylvania Hunter production dates.

Its an awful thing to happen to a rifleman. Life is short, and pleasures few. But to interfere with a man's rifle time is just mean... All the best to you.

    T/C Pennsylvania Hunter production dates.

Thank you Sir! I will hold on tight. Later in the series, they went to a full octagonal barrel. Just looked like a long barrel Renegade Hunter. The half round/ octagonal REALLY sets them apart. Also helps a lot with handling characteristics. The balance is very nice and she HANGS there when...

    T/C Pennsylvania Hunter production dates.

Say " Haloo" to " Peach". A seriously GOOD riflegun. TC even put the vent in the right place on this one!

    T/C Pennsylvania Hunter production dates.

Production dates were 1988 - 2001. Curiously, I've never seen one in the woods, or even on the range. I'm really happy to have scooped this one up! Fantastic rifle!

Range report. Peach is SUCH a good girl!

"Peach" is my 32 inch barrelled TC Pennsylvania Hunter flintlock. I broke in a Lyman double. 490 ball mold. Balls dropped at .491 and weighed 179 grains, +/- .5 grain. I'll take that! I used my regular .015 Ox Yoke pre lubed patches, an Ox Yoke pre lubed. 54/.56 wad and 70 grains of 3f Swiss...

    T/C Pennsylvania Hunter production dates.

Hi All. Just looking for the year introduced and discontinued. I know actual production dating a specific rifle is not possible. Just looking for the production run. I'm loving my flintlock Pennsylvania Hunter. She is spooky accurate and a REALLY good rifle! I guess this explains why I've only...

T/c Hawken with 1/66 round ball barrel loads

My Pennsylvania Hunter ( .50 1-66) likes 70 grains Swiss 3f a .490 ball and an Ox Yoke .015 prelubed. I also put an Ox Yoke .54/56 wad overpowder. Inch 3 round groups at 50 yards and patches are almost reuseable. Flintlock btw.

Showing off the new kid in town. CVA 50 cal. The stock will need some help.

Awhile back I discovered Minwax Antique Oil. Superb stuff! Easy to use, fills pores quickly, is decently durable, doesn't badly water spot. Have to have the light right to see a slight dulling if you leave the water on it. Touches up easy too. I used it on a couple rifles and I'm very pleased...

    T/C cherokee range day.

A .50 caliber wad, I like Ox Yoke pre lubed, under the conical gives excellent accuracy in my rifles. If you go up a caliber on the wad, it seals better. Learned this from IdahoLewis. What he can do with full caliber conicals is AMAZING. I have a .50 with a 1-38 twist that will put 3 400 grain...

    Unreliable ignition Traditions Hawken Percussion

What nipples are you using? I ask because my TC Hawken, unfired when she came to me, was a misfiring FIEND with Tresco nipples. After 30 shots, it eased up and after 50 was no more. The Trescos have a very narrow aperture and I believe this was the issue. Now, I use nipples broken in on my "...

Hoping to learn more about this rifle...can you help? ;-)

Handsome rifle gun you have there! One must take care though. This site is LOADED with gun porn! Lead many a fine and reasonable man astray... Flintlocks are especially promiscuous! I am an unrepentant enjoyer of unmentionables. Basically, I like ( almost) anything requiring me to pour powder...

    Pan Powder for Flintlock Rifle

From small acorns( thoughts), grow mighty oaks( threads). I wonder, does the ( ever so slightly) longer burn time of 3f give potentially better ignition due to its duration? Unburned Holy Black can,and will, absorb moisture. I'm sure I'm not the only one who remembers old Goex cans with rust on...
