    T/C Hawken, engraved

The engraving is very nice! Assuming you could find someone to do that kind of work, it's gonna cost ya! $700 would be a good price to me. A good Hawken, especially a .54, is hard to touch 'round here for $500. And that's without the engraving. If ya like it, and the bore's good, GO for it.

My rifle project has just earned a name....

Almost all of mine have names. Only one with a human name is my P53 that I used to shoot Yankees with. She's " Victoria ". Vicky to her friends. My unmentionable is " Calico". She's a walnut stocked mix of blued and... armory bright. My laminate stocked T/C Hawken is "Autumn". I'm waiting on...

Long-range target rifle shooting at the very highest level - almost an hour with Mr capandball...

They say " Never meet your heroes". Generally excellent advice, but for CapandBall I'd gladly take the risk!

    Deer hunting with a zouave

My first 4 muzzleloader deer went down to my Euroarms P53 Enfield and a Lyman 575213OS, lubed with the old heat and dip Bore Butter over 60 grains of either Elephant or Goex 3f. All one shot kills. Messy chests too. Every time I popped a cap on a yankee, I almost felt bad having seen what a...

    Curious chrono results

With 14 fps ( 2 loads) and 7 fps actual variations, not calculated, I don't think my swab/ ramming is an issue.

    Curious chrono results

My elder .50 flint Renegade flintlock gave some very curious results 'tuther day. The charge was 70 grains of 3f Swiss, the projectiles I can not mention, but weigh 200, 230 and 250 grains. The 200s did 1528 fps with a high/ low of 14 fps The 230s did 1448 fps with a high/ low of 14 fps The...

    Flintlocks at Local Shop

IF it's possible to go wrong with a Renegade, and my own experience says it REALLY hard to, it won't be by much. If the bores are good, you'll have a superb rifle. Sometimes the locks need a little love, they're production not custom after all, but they're not hard to work on. And under $400...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Got my range box read to take Autumn, my T/C Hawken with the factory laminated stock, to the range. Our October beer season will be here soon. Bear and ( antlerless) deer. You know... beer! Hope she doesn't chastise me for not taking her for a walk these past 3 years...

Does anyone even do this anymore?

Just don't over oil after cleaning. I patch the bore and patent breech, if so equipped, before loading the first round. Never had a misfire on the first round, range or field.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Shot my smallest ever composite group at 50 yards with my .50 caliber flintlock Renegade. Factory blade and aperture sights Can't mention the load, but the smallest group was 5/8ths and the largest 1 & 5/8ths. 9 shots were 1 &13/16ths. It was so humid that the pan was wet between shots! Primed...

    Soling a frizzen

I had a Lyman frizzen fitted to my T/C lock and it resulted in a pan/ frizzen gap that is unacceptably large. I'm thinking that if I sole the bottom of the frizzen it'll correct this. I don't think it wise to work on the pan, as the vent blast could dislodge it or get under it. I've seen vent...
