First Build - Jacob Dickert .50 Cal. Transitional Period

Just a few baby steps this weekend. Roughed in the Heel of the Butt Plate, removing and shaping the area where the sprue was located. Also rounded-over the mounting screws. Butt Plate still requires smoothing and polish. Drilled the Ramrod Pipes mounting pins. Certainly not my most accurate...

Thank You. These skills are not that hard to acquire. I have been a woodworker for a long time, and the metal working skills were all acquired while doing woodworking. But I will admit that there is a much wider breadth of skills required to assemble a fine flintlock that I had originally...

I think the original poster I was replying to had the idea that my touch hole was too far from the "perfect" location. I had said I wished it could have been closer to exactly where I originally intended. It's only 1/64" up and 1/32" forward of exact sunrise position. When the Frizzen is closed...

Got a lot done already today (It's only 1:30pm, Sunday). Patchbox Cover and Finial cut out, pin hinges formed for each part, knuckles cut and fitted, Side Plates cut and hooks created at front end (under the hinge during installation), and layed it up to get a rough idea of Cover shaping and...

@Story I live about 50 miles or so south of Dixon’s. Been there many times. Like a kid in a candy shop. Forks of the Delaware I’ve yet to attend. I know there’s a show in the next few weeks, May 14-15, which I am planning to attend. Are you a FOTDHS member? Been trying to find sponsors.

    Hello from South Eastern PA

@Artificer Yes, sir. First horn I ever made. Obviously the screw tip should have been made of horn as well, but I liked the look of the maple. Came out pretty well, and I learned an awful lot. At least it's air tight, and well fitting of the rest of my kit. Next ones will be a bit more correct.

Ramrod moulding cut and shaped. Barrel sides lowered and shaped. Ramrod cut to length and fitted. That forward barrel pin, who’s placement wasn’t well thought out in advance, will be fixed soon.
