    Soldering a front sight?

I am replacing the front sight on a beat up fowler of mine. While waiting for the new sight i began to wonder how sights were attached during the golden years. I'm assuming that solder didnt exist in t he days of Schreyer and other gunsmiths. what methods did the employ?

    Trade guns and squirrels

here in the Communist state of NY, we are having the exact opposite problem.....It seems everytree in the forest is dropping acorns, and Oak being the predominant mast crop in this area...well squirrels dont have to travel far for food. which can make finding them congregated in one area about...

    Diamonds and cold weather

I am finishing up my Daimond shelter. Made from two twin size 600 thread count sheets. My only concern would be the flamability of cotton soaked in oil....I would imagine it would ignite fairly easily. Common sense aside, what other measures can you take when having a fire so close to the shelter?

    Smooth bore target 20 gauge

some may argue , but i have no qualms about shooting a fowler with a rear sight. In fact all of my "deer Guns" have rear sights on them. I just prefer to have that increased accuraccy. not because the rear sight is better, but because ive never been that great at long distance with just a front...

    "Found Parts" fowler

also , I should mention that The builder, Kevin Daugherty came up with the vast majority of the research for this piece. He was instrumental in its conception of ideas...

    "Found Parts" fowler

Brought home my latest aquisition! This is a "found Parts" fowler, as might have been made for a militia , or individual in very early Rev-War, or even pre -war. This would have been before America was receiving any type of military aid and gunsmiths weere using whatever they could get there...

    range report

well i went to the range today, finally found a good working load. I had to mess around with everything from 7/8 - 1.5oz. wad and no wad, op cards, os cards and all. I kept running into blown patterns, inconsistent patterns, patterns too wide, to small... finally, i struck gold! settled on 80gr...

    The Casting Void

well, I once owned a .32 rifle that I could never get a load worked. finally i started weighing the balls an kept all the same weights together....what an improvement. I no longer shoot small bore ...but ive yet to ever see an issue with my 20 bore guns. I dont think ive ever weighed 1...

    CVA flintlock

I was at my local gunstore yesterday and they had a CVA halfstock flinter in .50 cal. the gun was in really good shape except the horrible home browning they did. Looks like it may have been a kit. the lock as usual was pure rubbish. they wanted 150...was thinking i might try to talk them down...

12 gauge RB for deer hunting?

My first Deer with BP was with a .54. I was using 60gr of 3f and a .535 ball I shot my deer a bit forward....and that shoulder stoppped the ball dead in its tracks....I myself would be very hesitant to shoot with any less than 70gr. I know many people are successful, i just like the feeling of...

    bent barrel

I'm sure its already been covered however my using the search tool brought up nothing of value. so , I have a fowler that shoot well... at 30 yards it shoots mostly center and 3-4 inches high. at 50 yards it shoots about 4 inches left and 6 inches high. The barrel was bent to shoot POA for the...

    loose barrel pin

With the warm, dry summer my house gets very warm during the day. I just noticed that i have a loose barrel pin! Im assuming its because of stock shrinkage due to the warm temps. what can I do to re-tighten the pin?

    Charleville or Bess with shot?

I had a charleville I used for reenacting, if you are talking about using a stock military gun for hunting purposes, they work great! as long as you keep a couple things in mind 1) they are heavy, much heavier than a civilian gun for the same purpose. 2) they take alot to feed 3)the sights...

    Squirrel Loads?

well im brand new to shooting shot, but I am currently using 60gr of 3f, 1/2" fiber wad. 7/8 oz plastic shotcup on top of the wad with the end off the wad torn off for the OS card. I think my first thing i need to change is the amount of shot. it seems like everyone uses a fairly larger amount...
