One of the main reasons I swab between shots is the amount of residue in the barrel after the shot. It's a lot, and I don't want to shove it to the bottom of the barrel with the next ball.

I swab between shots for the simple reason that the residue is so thick that I don't want to push it all into the base of the barrel. I mean the residue is very thick on the swab patches. Besides, if swabbing between shots produces, now, acceptable accuracy from my rifle, why shouldn't I?

No chance of contamination. This is a unique event with this rifle as it has always been so easy to produce ignition. Normally I only fill the pan about 1/4 and concentrate against the touch hole producing near instantaneous ignition up to now. Just wondering what might have happened.

I ran a wipe down the bore prior to shooting and no oils were observed on the cloth. Since I am working through Dutch's shooting program, I am swabbing with Ballistol between shots. I'm using 3F black powder, same powder as I've used all along.

After a lot of trying various methods, I successfully removed the patch. Tried a undersized bronze bore brush, bristle brush and patch puller. Nope. Tried cleaning the bore. Nope. Finally after the final cleaning patch was pulled out the little wad of patch fell out. Thanks for the suggestions
