New to these parts and in Chattanooga. I acquired a pile of guns and ammo, to include Uberti Santa Fe .54 cal from Lakeville, CT and several others.

New to me too, should be square box stamped, usually on the left barrel flat, with 2 capitol letters inside the box that are the date code. May have to remove the barrel from stock to see it depending on how it was stamped.

I hadn't noticed the box date code, looks like BC. I didn't know the Santa Fe Hawken was still in production that long, always figured it was NLA by mid to late 80"s. Good info :)

I swear... been a member here for 23 years... not active much the past 15 years... the level of petty bickering and snarky juvenile one-ups-man-ship around here is sad. And I ain't about to make the now customary CYA statement that this post is directed at no one in particular... if you think...

Is this pure Ballistol, moose milk, or other?

Never see anything like this at the local Wally's in my area... coarse they don't sell guns either... DFW metro mess. I REALLY need to move.

Removing Birchwood Casey Plum Brown barrel finish

Very interesting, never heard of it before but I can certainly understand it. If keeping the solution pure and un-contaminated makes a difference in the quality or outcome of the finish, it'd be nice if the manufacturer could mention that in the instructions on the bottle.

Removing Birchwood Casey Plum Brown barrel finish

I recently browned the tang and but plate/toe plate of my Santa Fe hawken with the Laurel Mountain Forge stuff and I thought it turned out good. My first attempt at browning anything really. Maybe it works better on some steel/iron than others?

    Santa Fe hawken stock re-finish

I don't know that mine originally came with the dark stain finish. While sanding/stripping the old finish I did notice that there was a reddish layer under the dark stain, perhaps it was originally like yours and stained darker at some time?

    Santa Fe hawken stock re-finish

My first muzzleloader re-finish. The stock was really dark which I didn't care for so I refinished it, and while it was apart took the opportunity to do a little re-shaping of the lock panels, wrist area and front of the comb. Also tidied up some other fitments here and there that were kinda...

If it's a "steal" and you need/want a back up...no brainer, do it. Is it missing the barrel wedge?

Help me keep a good thing going...

So I got to shoot this weekend a recently acquired used, but new to me Sante Fe Hawken circa 1984 ish. I didn't clean it much as it looked very well maintained. Shot it with the recommended .520" RB and .018 patch that I just lubed with spit. Dead nuts accurate with 70 - 90 gr FFFGoex. Couldn't...

    Cleaning between rounds

Anybody remember Stumpy's Moose Milk? I got the recipe for it here years ago when I first registered. Worked real good for me when shooting repetitively at the range for lubing patches with no swabbing between shots, really seemed to keep the loading friction consistent. Pretty wet though, don't...
